NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

I can understand people buying the 5090 still, as it is the fastest GPU. I just can’t understand people picking up a 5080 though… It’s a truly miserable little card for that money.
It’s sad how bad the GPU market has got. Retailers actively scalping and people lining up for the privilege.
What about someone that's upgrading from a 1080ti or someone getting into pc gaming and a gpu is the last thing they need?

It’s such a poor performance increase over the cards that came before it, at a comical price. If I had a 1080ti, I’d continue waiting to see what AMD do. If someone is just getting in to PC gaming, I wouldn’t recommend they start with the 5080 either.

Anygames coming out this year that are going to need a 5090? so at least you can say you have got your moneys worth i mean they are still using Cyberpunk to sell the 5000 cards GTA 6 maybe anything else?

5080 already out of vram in Indiana Jones at 4k , super textures or something ?!

It uses a texture pool size which at highest setting is enough to cause VRAM issues on 16GB cards. Depending on other background tasks it can impact even lower size :)

I would say its not just about the games coming out... but also the monitor your using... With the 5k monitors coming out this year i would think they will make good use of it and also very high refresh rate monitors.

Honestly the issue with that is those people are being ripped off. They could get similar performance in a lot of games right now for £800 with a 7900xtx, a card that was so maligned for being overpriced that AMD have said they are not releasing high end cards this generation.

There's no such thing as a bad card just a bad price. And this has a very bad price. I don't want people's first experience of pc gaming to be getting massively ripped off by nvidia, though tbh the way things are going that looks like its becoming a corr part of the experience

To be fair cyberpunk with the path tracing upgrades etc does actually need a 5090. With a 4090 you do need dlss quality + frame gen.

Could've done with the extra frames in Indiana Jones too at times.

Not when they’re even more money and out of stock instantly.
I ever so slightly missed out on the 360 5090 FE models they shipped to the UK (all FE recipients had x of 360 on their package). Had the add to basket button page on the retailer site but it just wouldn't add.

Actually managed to get a 5080 FE get into my basket when that turned up but no interest in downgrading so abandoned it.

Quite confident I could eventually get one if I wanted. AIBs are ofc a total mess, paying £500+ for a different air cooler is laughable.

Back to thinking I should skip a generation. But considering how much the price of 2nd hand 4090s are ATM, only a couple hundred quid to upgrade to a 5090 FE. As long as it stays like I may perhaps keep trying.

I’ve played Indiana on both 4090 and 5080, and find it a boring game imo (maybe it’s not my kind of game).

On the 5080 for path tracing at 4K you have to drop the texture pool size by one setting and to be honest when it’s above medium (which I had to have on my 4070 stop gap card) I can’t tell a difference. I think it’s to do with how far in the distance it starts to render the texture detail.

It’s the 3080 10GB all over again, I had that at launch and was a cracking card for £700 ( I got slightly over msrp). But because of games like far cry which were AMD sponsored that required 11GB VRAM for ultra texture pack 10GB was deemed not good enough.
But there’s only less than a handful of games which exceed 16GB of VRAM and there’s no visual difference with an odd setting tweak.

There’s absolutely zero chance we get GTA 6 on pc this year. Probably even next year will be a stretch based on rockstar previously.

Rubbish.

The 5090 is 30% faster at most, which isn't enough to suddenly not need DLSS and/or FG. You'll get a bit more performance out of a 5090 with the same settings but nothing that will make a massive difference to the experience.

For the record I get about 75fps average with path tracing and DLSS Quality on my 34" ultrawide which is more than adequate. Not everyone games at 4K and needs 200fps all the time.

How did you manage to get so close on both FE models? Button went straight from Coming Soon to Out of Stock for me.
