Questions - Diesel engine and transmission / gearbox reliability circa 2014-2019 -BMW - Mercedes - Audi ( on small hatchback or coupe models)

Is this MK3 TT worth looking at do you think ?

I'm after a written opinion on the above TT not a reaction . If your going to laugh at it atleast say what about ?

Other cars I have been looking out for is 3 series BMW or 4 series grand coupe m sport . However I don't want a dull white car . This is all that's coming up at the moment

Yes mate a grey diesel TT is definitely not a dull white car. It's a dull grey car

Still trying to find a decent 320d or i , Or 4 series grand coupe

Everything at the moment is miles away or white

Went to look at a 2018 420i grand coupe . Couple of things I noticed was a slight rough idle,

He wouldn't let me test drive it unless I was at price of selling , and the place only gives 1 month Warrenty . Unless you extend it which is £400 for a year I think

£14400 , 47k miles

The other let down was service history- no service history up until 31k then there was a brake fluid change on idrive, then 41 k is where you start seeing in idrive oil, filter etc.

Long time to leave it ?? Or no record of it ?? The place it's sold from looks high end. Lots and lots of cars of the forecourt. Quite prestige looking

Im still not sure about flipping over to petrol and running costs.. I do daily stop start urban and some motorway miles so if the real term Is going to get me around 26mpg through town I'm not sure . I'd want a diesel which would give me little bit better though town and not bad return on the motorway.

Downside is dpf and apparently the 420d 2016 - 2018 still sounds like a bit of a tractor and rattly under the bonnet

I'd possibly give this ago but he would have to come down on price or atleast negotiate after a test drive.. I'd want Warrenty thrown in or price lowered so I would buy the warranty.

Having to pay asking price and have to pay for a years Warrenty tips it to a no

Not a particularly rare car. Find another good one. 1 month warranty is illegal too. 3 months minimum via consumer rights act for any faults of a car of that value.

I'll have a chat with them about this . I'm not going to.rush to it, I'll give it a couple of weeks to see if its still there and In the meantime look around

I think the price should be negotiable as they don't have any oil changes until 41k which is a bit of a risk, I would want them to look the slight rough idling..this is all before he has even let me take it for a test drive..

Yes this is what I thought places would need to by law give 3 months Warrenty.. when it ends you can choose to extend.

Question . For newer cars I'm sure there is like reccomended oil and filter change at 10k , 20k? Or do they advise to wait to 30k to do a service ?.

Don't have a chat with them. Just walk away

That alone should be enough to discount what sounds like an absolute shed. These are not rare cars.

Run, don't walk.

Petrol will cost you roughly £60 a month more than diesel, assuming 10k per year and 140.9p vs 134.9p a litre. I'd take that for not driving a diesel. If that additional cost is enough to sway the decision then I'd potentially argue that a 7+ year old BMW may not be the best way forward.

Plenty of people have tried to tell him this already but he's not interested, he doesn't want something that isn't a premium brand and he's not willing to accept that cars cost more than they did years ago either, so he's scraping around bottom of the barrel sheds trying to find a unicorn

I don't mind paying a little under the price ! Aslong as Has decent warrenty? Much to ask ?

What's the point in car sales if you can't haggle a tiny bit..

Also whilst I'm on here and asking questions .again this is going to be an auto Vs manual question, Iv.noticed another 4 series 2017 has come up 54k miles, auto, flappy paddle. Is the tech in the autos ok and reliable when shifting ?
