How do you go to sleep with your partner?

I don't want to sound insulting but I just don't believe you. Let's say the bed is the larger double which is 4.5ft over the normal double of 4ft, that's just 2.25ft per adult. My should are wider than that. And those measurements are taking about being right on one edge of the bed to the other. I reality you want half a foot from the edge each side, so you're 2 adults sharing about 3.5ft.

A double is for a young adult, not 2 grown adults

Have you thought about getting a fan? Doesn't even need to be pointing at you, just some where in the room. I did this since I was 15 and pretty much have never slept without one since, even when I'm holidaying I take one with me. It cuts out almost all background noise, doors, cars, keys, shower etc you just struggle to hear them.
I really don't care what you believe. We have a double bed.

24 years, same bed, usually at the same time unless I am “watching” which generally means falling asleep on the couch and not being bothered to move (strangely this behaviour is confined to weekends)

You share a double bed with another adult? It's definitely a double?
Oh right in light of recent bed size discussion your comment makes more logical sense, I thought it was an attack on my sex register status, which is now clear and they could never have pinned all the cases on me, especially after the key witness drowned in the bath then fell down the stairs onto a carving knife 7 or 8 times.....

I carelessly referred to a double bed meaning 2 person bed. It's a 200x180cm which I believe makes it a king-size?

Shoulder width is only relevant if you both sleep on your back/front. Also women have narrower shoulders in general. Your shoulders are wider than 27 inches? Did you measure that correctly? My self measurement came up to 20 inches and I have broader shoulders than average (from a quick google search that is 16.2 inches)

Also You don’t need 6 inches from the edge of the bed.

I've been with my Mrs for 5 years now but we've only lived together for a couple of months.

At the moment I have to get up much earlier than her 2-3 days a week, on the preceding evenings I go to bed early and she goes to bed whenever. On the other nights we go to bed together.

I can't believe I've just taken a tape measure up to bed.
I started the thread, my bed is 4ft 4ins wide and me and my Mrs sleep in it no problem and have done for 45 years of marriage.
We've probably had around 4 beds in that time but they've always been the same size.

When we have some time let me introduce Google to you so that you can get the measurements of a double bed :p

Seriously though I'm impressed. The space you have is less than you'd have as a kid in a single bed.

It's impossible sorry. Laws of measurements don't allow it.

Can I ask why you've never gone bigger? I understand limitations in rooms can be a factor, but given you've not mentioned it already, it seems you may never have even thought to try bigger/wider beds when getting a new one?

Me and the wife shared a double bed for 30 years before buying a super king size.
Never had a problem regarding space either.

Perhaps we needs to get the partners to post on this forum to get the full picture. If mine posted on here without my view added, she'd be telling you there was no issue when we used to share a bed, missing out that she took 80 percent of the space as she kept rolling closer and closer to me

Are you sure you're not lying?

This is what I was expecting. Still though, that 6ft bed is only the width each that you'd have as a kid in a single bed, which is 3ft wide.

I think I've concluded the reason why this thread exists now. People are sleeping in separate rooms more and more often, because none of them seem to have heard that bigger beds exist :p

I feel those who still use a double with their partner should go to a bed store this weekend and just see what a super king size feels like and report back how they feel when they get home and look at their teenagers sized 'double' bed

A double bed in the UK is 135 centimeters wide by 190 centimeters long, or 4'6" by 6'3".
That means my bed is smaller at 4'4"
Which Google do you use?

We met at 16, my parents left me to live in Nigeria so until we got married we actually slept in my single bed for years.
When we got married and had a double it was massive.

To be honest there has been some proper crap on here over the years but somebody saying Laws of measurements don't allow two people to sleep in a double bed is one of the best yet :)

i always go to bed a bit later and have to wear earplug because she snores, not that they do much (there can be some nudging during the night)
it's probably best we don't have a spare room or i'd be in it to get a good nights sleep :p

Usually go to bed at the same time, weekends might differ - she needs a lot more sleep than I do so will commonly go to bed before me at weekends and i'll play some games or watch tv.

Pretty sure ours is a double bed too...but we use a king size duvet as we each hog it

Never gone bigger because we don't need bigger.
Do you drive a car, ever thought of trying a minibus?

It's one of the most pathetic things I've read on here :)
No couples are sleeping together in double beds, it's impossible :)

I haven't taken a tape measure to it, but assumed that ours is a standard double. Funny thing was on our most recent holiday my other half actually complained about the (admittedly very large) bed we had in the apartment, as apparently I was too far away from her in the night.

Same here every time we go away which is once a month.

We slept in a standard double for a couple of years too in my early 20's. One of those horrible metal ones that would bend and buckle in the middle after a bit of wrestling.
