How do you go to sleep with your partner?

More or less the same time, but rarely the same bed anymore. Wife gets up a lot earlier for work and often can’t sleep half the night, both of which disturb me.
Same.
Gf needs waaaay more hours sleep.
And is also a light sleeper. So it's not like I can even go in when I'm ready for bed.

It does suck but I'd lose 2-3 hours a day every day of life if we slept in the same bed

The only time we sleep apart is if I get a cold that bungs me up, then I snore and I wake up alone :D.
Or, when grandkids stop and the wife sleeps with them.

Does she get waken up by movement getting ready for work in the morning or the car leaving the house?

I am the lightest sleeper in the world and can function on a couple of hours if needed yet my missus getting out of bed never wakes me up. It is things like boiling the kettle, brushing teeth or her driving off that wakes me up as they are a lot louder than getting out of bed.

I usually fall asleep first while my wife plays on my retroid pocket 5 for an hour or so. I always go to bed with earphones and rain sounds, done this for years as I grew up in London and always needed white noise to sleep, so the noise she makes doesn't bother me, nor does the light from the bedside lamp as I was always used to street lights lightening my bedroom.

Its the getting into bed, opening the door etc.

Problem is if she wakes up she can't get back to sleep. So the risk is just too high. As she's basically dysfunctional without sleep and it compromises her work

I am the same it sucks. Once I wake up I am up for the day but it is normally the car leaving or the kettle going or something like that.

I sleep like a log. My mind sometimes wakes me up with hyper activity. But outside influences.. Not really.

It does suck. It's just not worth the hassle going into the bedroom when I need to sleep. It's a 50/50 if she wakes up. It's just easier to sleep separately. If we needed the same amount of sleep it would be different

I have slept on the sofa for over two years now. Our son's room is downstairs and it got to the point I wasn't waking to the sound of his sats monitor or Bipap over a monitor.

Also my wife has knee issues and has fallen down the stairs when trying to hurry while half asleep. I can always sleep in the day if necessary, she never can, so it is the best compromise. I haven't had a regular sleep pattern in over 25 years (yaay shift work prior to full time caring).

When I've has partners always the same time.

I thought the thread was going to ask what do you wear in bed :D

I'm also surprised how common this is.

Is it just one of those things people don't talk about because they think they'll be judged as weird? But many people do it?
Yeah so it would seem...
Can mods just add a poll to thread.
With or without. Separate together whatever lol.

First 15 years in each others arms. Since the boy came along seperate rooms. I'm sure this is the long term plan of most females :)

It was never mentioned or talked about with my grandparents nor my parents so I never found out why but I did find it odd, just one of those things never discussed there was an unspoken taboo about the subject I expect the same is true for many people

When we're at home always the same bed and been married over 10 years. Only one exception was when she was heavily pregnant and I got smashed and passed out in the middle of the bed so she went to the spare room. Wrote me a note so I wouldn't think she'd left me in the morning

Wife and I share a double, plenty of room.

I don't want to sound insulting but I just don't believe you. Let's say the bed is the larger double which is 4.5ft over the normal double of 4ft, that's just 2.25ft per adult. My should are wider than that. And those measurements are taking about being right on one edge of the bed to the other. I reality you want half a foot from the edge each side, so you're 2 adults sharing about 3.5ft.

A double is for a young adult, not 2 grown adults

Have you thought about getting a fan? Doesn't even need to be pointing at you, just some where in the room. I did this since I was 15 and pretty much have never slept without one since, even when I'm holidaying I take one with me. It cuts out almost all background noise, doors, cars, keys, shower etc you just struggle to hear them.

Nothing dirty but on Sunday there were 6 couples, 3 of us old and 3 of us young (parents and kids basically).

One of my daughters was on about her husbands sleeping habits and said he spent most nights in the other bedroom.
The other 4 couples then said they mostly sleep separately.
The other thing was that all 5 couples also went bed at a different time to their partners with 4 of them being the bloke going later one of them being the woman going later.

Me and my wife have always gone to bed at the same time ** for the last 45 years of marriage and always fall asleep in each others arms (aaaahhhh)

** Obviously I gig with my bands now and then so I might get in around 1am but as soon as I get in bed we cuddle.

I'm now wondering if we're actually weird.

So OCUK, do you go to bed at the same time and do you sleep in the same bed?
I used to go to bed hours after my ex wife as I really struggle to sleep unless I am absolutely knackered now matter what I do, so I'd be in bed at 1-2am.

I believe that was one of (many) contributing factors to why we ended up falling apart.

My partner now, has always tried to make me goto bed at the same time as her, which is quite a bit earlier than I was used to, as she gets up at 6, I work from home so don't need to get up early. That did frustrate and annoy me a little bit at the start of our relationship, but I tried it. I used to lay in bed wide awake while she is fast to sleep. I would read on my phone until I got tired a few hours later.

In the end, I just started getting up not long after her and actually made use of the extra few hours of the day. I think it has definitely helped our relationship. We cuddle before sleeping every night too. Something me and my ex never did either.

I can't believe I've just taken a tape measure up to bed.
I started the thread, my bed is 4ft 4ins wide and me and my Mrs sleep in it no problem and have done for 45 years of marriage.
We've probably had around 4 beds in that time but they've always been the same size.
