***Sid Meier's Civilization VII***

Had this ordered on CDKeys as it was only 41 quid and thought why not, I'll give it a go, if its good I'll get my monies worth. Huge fan of Civ 4 and 5. Didn't really get into 6 though. Got email today "Civ7 available". Go to get my key. Not available until 11th. Epic troll ;(
You should have spent the extra £40 so you could be dissappointed today insteand of in a weeks time.

Lol my first desync on LAN jesus Christ.
I genuinely wonder if they even played the game,/tested it.

Well so far I'm seeing no reason to buy the game, glad I didnt get the Civ fever and reorder.

From what I can see its looking worse than the jump from 5 to 6, also anyone know what the max size is on the maps cause the ones I have seen so far are tiny!!! Extremely infurating since 6 was too small as well, I want proper detailed world maps. I tried modding 6 with larger map mods but they just crash the game cause the engine is poor, god help us if 7 end up as broken as 5 and 6 was for years at launch.

The map certainly expanded a lot when i got to the 2nd age and started moving out ships but its been a long time that i played anything but a standard size map tbh.
Im going to keep playing because i want to like it.
ITs obviously obvious but im pretty sure that in 6 months or by the end of 2025 the game will be "good" but.. but honestly that is a bit of a joke for 95% of players.
Civ 7 is, will be, more a labour of love than a fun game riight now.

Ive got 4 other games nagging me for play time (inc civ 6) Its not even the price that P's me off its just the let down disappointment.

i love moaning about stuff, i think this will keep me "happy" moaning for ages.

Meh I’m not entirely sure what everyone is winging about.

Sure, a lot of information has been hidden behind the UI, that’s a valid criticism but everything else just feels like the general lust to complain about literally anything and everything at the moment.

if they didn’t switch up the mechanics, people would complain. If they switch up the mechanics, people complain that it’s different.

If they didn’t switch up the art style, people would complain, if they switched it up, they complain it’s not like the last game.

From what I’ve played so far:
The game plays like a civ game
performance is good
I’ve not seen any game breaking bugs(not a given these days)
There are some balance issues but that’s a given and cookie cutter set ups always rise to the top.
The new mechanics mean you need to rethink about what you are doing and you can’t just do what you did in the last edition of the game.

I was literally up to 2am last night because… one more turn.

Same. I'm quite enjoying it for what it is but I've not played since Civ 5.

The thing that annoys me the most though is that I can't easily see what effect my choices will have when I'm making them so I just pick stuff on gut feeling.

When I have to choose something, I'd like a screen that pops up showing my cities and towns with a summary of here's how they perform now and here's what they'll do after if you make this choice.

Maybe it's just me that's a simpleton though and I don't get it yet. :)

Biggest issue for me at the moment is that in its current state, Civ 7 is a better solo experience than a multiplayer experience and as I only really play Civ games over epic length, grand multiplayer matches its lacking for me at present. As Efour said it will get there but it needs a bit of work before I can really delve into it with the regular multiplayer crowd. For the moment I will park it, finish off KCD2, PoE2, Avowed and Stalker 2 and then Civ 7 should be in a better state

You can still play and enjoy it while also having a good whinge about it, because there's plenty to moan about; like why is there no quick combat or quick movement, why can't I queue techs or civics, why can't I rename cities or units, why can't I see how much techs/civics cost in sci/cul per turn, why is there no way easy to see whether your cities have a capital connection, where's the restart button gone if I don't like a spawn on turn 1, etc. All these are staples - they were in previous Civ's and should be in Civ 7.

I'll likely shelve the game for now until the developers can at least fix some of the problems, or until at least when they get the first decent patch out the door around mid-March. I still plan on playing it loads because I love Civ games, but it's just so frustrating that, for the 4th Civ game in a row, it's not where it should be on launch, and Firaxis have no excuse as a large developer that's been making Civ games for 25~ years.

This is my biggest issue, you don't understand your choices and your limited ability to make them. Say I notice someone else is building the same wonder, my only choice is to change policy cards, I can't rush, chop or change focus. What is the difference between towns and cities what are the implications of the change, no idea.

So many of these things have been done better in other Civ games Happines, I understood the impact in Civ5 here, no idea. How do I make roads and connections very clear in 5 and 6 here no idea. The controls to affect your strategy are crude they lack feedback or the ability to fine tune them in any meaningful way. Your city is unhappy, of I'll just change my resources around right now. Nope you have to wait until you next unlock a resoucre FFS. The combat isn't terrible, quite like commanders but would you like some support units to focus your attack, nope tough.

I'm going to struggle through to the end of my first game and then I doubt I'll play agin until it's fixed. These are not balance issues day one or bugs they are fundemental weaknesses in the game that I can't just ignore. And the sad thing is I could go on with the game concepts/mechanics that were done better in previous versions of civ particulalry civ5.

My son (who is 14) is absolutely loving it! He was a big fan of 6, and says that this is completely different, but that's a good thing. I've been reading the Steam reviews and it gets totally slated so I was quite surprised he likes it so much.

Can you deploy /force an army all onto the same tile if the geography doesn't permit them spreading out properly?

Spent some time today learning the mechanics. It seems culture/science are a bit more powerful to focus on in the early game. Still a lot to learn for this. I came across a few bugs so had to report those. Managed to accidentally get a ship to sail through land at one point.

This I was not keen on. I like them being able to move as one but then you try to deploy and one of them ended up in the water. There’s probably a way to chose which tile gets which unit. If there isn’t then there should be!

Definitely! Seemed kinda random when I was doing it.

Slowly getting to grips with the new mechanics in this game. Not as bad as some make out, but the UI needs to provide far more contextual information to the player than it presently does. The civpedia does help somewhat. Another small UI gripe : wish i could deselect a unit ( and not by clicking on another unit ).

No, not unless they are all "packed" up into the inventory of an army commander.
YEAH THATS WHAT I MEAN oops caps

Remember the games where you would get a mountain or narrow pass well now it seems you can stack ranged and high attack units and just do the combined attack general ability.
maybe that works for just any units in his sphere of influence..

Its growing on me. Our multiplayer game just crashed locked up on a next turn so i gave up for now. so that's 1 lock up 1 desync so far :P

Just conquered my way into mega minus happiness to see how bad it was and its bad as civ 5 i think. nothing works no money army disbands same as any civ game tbh.

Im getting there.... Will be a lot of combinations to try

Civ 7 - VR ?? That must surely be very cut down, cant imagine having a VR headset on for the length of time it takes to play a Civ game
