What film did you watch last night?

Back To The Future 1985 - 8/10

I saw it early 90s and I didn't fully appreciate it as I was expecting more sci-fi elements as a kid - more bangs and explosions etc. I rewatched it tonight and enjoyed it fare more this time round for the college drama-style storyline. The skateboard scenes were rad man... "tubular"! Then there was the Butterfly Effect thing going on, how history can be accidentally rewritten if the story gets knocked off course.

If memory serves, I enjoyed Part III the most out of the trilogy as they went back to the American Old West which was more my cuppa tea, but I will rewatch II and III as well and report back :-)

I watched Robbie Williams - Better Man last night 10/10
I thought a monkey playing him would put me off but it was a clever idea.
It was also nice seeing some areas from my local City.
They did do one thing wrong in it - they show him playing Knebworth then a bit later playing Royal Albert Hall but they were the other way round in real time.

The Order (2024) - 8-8.5/10

Watched it after I saw it mentioned a few times, can't believe I missed it when it first came out. Really powerful and informative movie (based on real events etc). Jude Law is really good in this and Nicholas Hoult is even better.

I'm looking forward to watching this when I get back from holiday, been waiting for it to be available at home.

Flow - 8/10

Charming little film, feels like what you'd get if the developers of Journey/Flower (and amusingly Flow) made a film.

I started watching that recently with my nephew, didn’t get time to finish it though, it’s a silent movie, (no speech) which is nice. Will have to get round to finishing it.

The Dark Knight

A real standout among both superhero films in general, and Batman films in particular, I don't think I've rewatched it since I saw it in the cinema at launch and it stands up just as well as ever. Impeccably cast, with Heath Ledger a stand-out casting as The Joker. It delivers that perfect mix of larger-than-life nonsense and grit that is one of two good ways to do Batman, the writing is good, the effects are good, and the plot punchy and well-paced.

10/10 - the best Batman film.

Watched Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves, 9/10. Loved it and it's a real shame that it struggled at the box office.

Out of curiosity, are you a roleplayer yourself? I wonder how the film plays with people who aren't.

Nosferatu 8/10

I've never seen the original, I also had no idea it was just a Dracula ripoff so that was a bit of a surprise as I started watching this. Some great performances (although some of the dialogue walked the line between great and hilarious how over the top it was, particularly from Dafoe. One line that was something like "He has supped from your good wife's blood man!" had me in hysterics.) and it was very polished but ultimately it was a story I've seen loads of times so it loses a point for being beaten to death.

Nosferatu

It seems this film is either love it or hate it. We were struggling after the first 20 mins and gave up at the half way point. I wanted to wait to see if Dafoe lifted things but it wasn't to be.

As we didn't finish it, I can't really grade it.

Bridget Jones : Mad about the boy. - Perfectly watchable. If you like the others you will like this and if not, the same applies. 6/10

Becoming Led Zeppelin - documentary as opposed to a film but interesting enough!

Quadrophenia - 1979

Never seen it before, I figured it's one of those must see at least once in your life movies.

Being from the 70's added to non-hollywood budget, some of the camera work etc isn't great, even for it's time.

I enjoyed it though, goes without saying the sound track is good, and the kind of movie does get you thinking, also kinda like the nostalgia as although it's a made up story etc, there is plenty there to reflect on what life was like back in this country what, heading towards 50 years ago.

Also Leslie Ash at the age of 19 was fit.

6/10
