What film did you watch last night?

Blade Runner 2049 - 4/10

Not sure what the hype was around this one. Aside from some great sound everything else was meh.

The gorge 5/10 - it's ok if you turn your brain off.

Better man 8/10 - great film and very well put together. Even if you don't like Robbie i think you'd enjoy this.

Nosferatu (2024)

While the production design, costume design and cinematography can be applauded, the film is quite slow and boring. Maybe it's because we are all so familiar with the story by now that there's nothing anyone can add or change to make interesting.

I also think that the the entire cast's performance bordered on over acting or overly dramatic. Maybe they were going for an older acting style, given the films origins.

I think this film will and up like Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula. You grew up watching Hammer House of Horror versions of Dracula and then Coppola turns it up to 11 compared previous films. But rewatching it not so long ago, it all seemed a bit rubbish and nowhere near as good as I remember.

4/10

Loves Lies Bleeding - 6/10

It was ok. Ed Harris is always enjoyable, even with a skullet(!). But I much prefer Rose Glass’ first film, Saint Maud.

The Crow

The effects are looking ropey 30 years later but the film doesn't really rely on them so it doesn't detract from the greatness of this gothic revenge masterpiece.

10/10, possibly biased by the big Crow poster that used to hang above my bed at uni.

Yup - that’s pretty much what I thought.

Alien Romulus 8/10

Initially went the pics to see this and watched it again on disney+ last night, not the best in the franchise but not a bad film.

The 36 (2004)

In an attempt to appear more windswept and interesting we watched a French film last night.

It didn't work and neither did the film. It felt more like an American film in the French language, rather than a French film. The subtitles didn't help either, making the dialogue seem very clumsy and cheesy. The film's editing made some scenes feel like jumps in the story rather than linking anything coherent together and the acting from the supporting cast wasn't great.

At least the fact that it was in French didn't have any affect on my enjoyment one way or the other. So if I leave it long enough, my wife might be persuaded to watch a few more foreign language films.

5/10

The Gorge

Actually found it to be a really fun Saturday afternoon action movie (and anyone who knows me, knows I like that sort of thing).

Of course the story was completely stupid but if you close your brain then it was two hours of fun to watch. Quite creepy too.

7/10

Transformers one

6.5/10

Didnt think it was as good as the review scores. I watched it due to them.
It was OK.

It was too predictable. Not just the really obvious stuff. But even the smaller stuff. If you were going to guess each major "chapter" you'd probably be right all the way to the end.

I should add the comedy in many of these "super hero" marvel and transformers type films I'm not a fan of personally. It's just a bit to "basic" for me. I prefer films to either be comedy or not. Not constant low tier stuff all the way through.

Wasted money on expensive voice actors too. I don't really understand why they do this. Does it really make any difference to ratings? I find it off putting when I recognise voices in movies myself. My mind makes connections to other roles they have played.
