Intel Core Ultra 9 285k 'Arrow Lake' Discussion/News ("15th gen") on LGA-1851

Even if the Ultra had launched as it is rated today, in that video, its cost, overall performance and uncertainty about the socket longevity would not seem enticing for me.
If there is still any reasonable uncertainty about the socket longevity that is.

The cost of some of those motherboards.......

Sigh

I’ll be interested to see if MLID now changes from a single socket platform with his leaks.

It always seemed weird to me that Intel would scrap the refresh. Refreshes are cheap and easy compared to a new architecture (I assume), so seems like a no brainer to buy time.

This. Cost is just too high.

On other news, regarding the ARL-S refresh... if it's only to improve the NPU could make sense 300H series as PTL won't cover all market segments.

I wonder how much AI is impacting the design schedules at Intel, AMD, QC and similar. Mediatek was reporting it design timelines have shrink a lot, from 18 to 6-9 months, I believed NVIDIA reported something similar. So, who know, maybe Intel manages to get something more in there but I doubt it.

In terms of AI Intel has pulled Falcon Shores in favour of going to Jaguar Shores and using Falcon for testing.

It probably has some bearing on the schedule but not sure about the overall impact per division

oh, not talking about AI products, but about the impact of AI in the designing process. NVIDIA said it's helping a lot reducing development timelines.

How much of Nvidia's problem with Blackwell stem from AI designing chips, not humans ? (Maybe it's still learning)

In German so you'll need to use the browser translate

Using the min spec RAM for all platforms which doesn't represent how they actually stack up when paired with optimal RAM for each platform. The AL CPUs are still way too expensive for the performance they provide vs previous gen.

Time to brighten the thread up with some pictures:

@hlennie These are boards/setup for the Core 200 lineup.

I'm going to go out on a bit of a limb and say the Asrock Z890 OCF is the board you should be looking at for tinkering on the Z890 platform, I've been really very very impressed with it and thus far it has out performed the Apex but the latest Apex bios update may change that.

As for that money compared to the Apex, it's a steal.

I still need to run tests compared to my AM5 platform as I am using my 9800X3D at the mo but you notice the idle/basic web use power pulled from the wall is higher than that of the 285K systems.

It’s amazing how nice some of the boards are for this platform given its arguable lack of success. Just how much money are Intel giving these board manufacturers in kickbacks?! :D

I don't think Intel have the money for kickbacks

Yes, I agree about the boards and we should see the Apex for the AM5 but if people are going to buy it or a B650 / B850 that remains to be seen.

I want an AM5 variant of that OCF! Cool looking board
