Just looking for advice on a screen or screens to pair with a Mac Mini M4 Pro. Obviously the Apple option is the 27inch 5k Apple Display Studio for £1500 but I was thinking that a larger screen would be better. It’s just for work purposes, web design. The budget is £1500. Would two screens that are 5k and 27inch from a different manufacturer work? Or is there a comparably ultra wide? Any help would be appreciated.

There are now sub £1000 27" 5K screens out there. They're not as good as the ASD but they tick all boxes. Two from different brands do work.

This year some 32" 6K options are coming in the sub-£2000 category (same PPI as ASD but just bigger). Something to watch out for.

Looking like we could get a mini LED Studio Display at some point too based on supply chains.

That’ll be a nice bump in price on an already expensive monitor.

The new Asus ProArt 5K looks nice at £700ish. Few places have stock, some preorder.

Am thinking of buying a new monitor for my Mac, not sure whether to get a 27 inch 4k 120hz or 5k 60hz, would the 5k jump (for perfect 27 inch 1440p) be worth it over the higher refresh rate?

If you’re looking at a Studio Display for your 5K 60hz needs then yes, it’ll be worth it. It is absolutely overpriced for what it is but it’s an exceptionally good monitor. You’ll plug it in and wonder how you’ve managed with a Studio Display hole in your life

Even 3 years after release there are no 5k 120Hz screens so you need to decide between 4k 120Hz or 5k 60Hz. There are cheaper 5k 27" screens out there though so maybe worth a look as well.

This year we'll also have some 32" 6k 60Hz options from LG and ASUS that won't be significantly more expensive than the Studio Display.

Speaking from experience and lots of research 4k 120hz with better monitor app is the way forward. Studio Display is fantastic but for me involves way too many compromises.

Its quite expensive though, was looking more at the BenQ PD2730S but might just get a 27 4k 120hz+ screen as I think am too used to a high refresh rate monitor

All depends what you want. Whatever you choose there will be compromises. Dell Alienware oled gets a lot of love from people on here. Ultimately it’s up to you, I personally wasn’t willing to spend £800 plus and risk burn in as I use mine for office work. https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/best/gaming-monitors-4k
Ill have a look at some, probably going to go for something sleek looking like the MacBook and not too bothered about OLED as I have a separate gaming monitor, is more for the ability to use my MacBook with a keyboard and not having to slouch my neck down at the screen.

My thoughts are mostly covered in these responses.
Yes, on paper studio is display is way overpriced however, for my current needs, it is by far the best monitor I’ve ever owned (and I’ve owned a lot).
Again, there will always be compromises so you need to know what compromises you can make. For example, if you plan mixed use with Mac and ‘a/n other’ machine then I would recommend any of the plethora of 4k monitors out there.
Basically, if you don’t need features such as UW aspect ratio, high refresh or OLED panel then for sole Mac use there is nothing else like it.

Crazy, isn't it (in a good way). My 2017 iMac is effectively the same panel and that wasn't the first iMac with it.

If I had the money I'd get one but I can't justify so I'll keep my cheap as chips monitors from 2018. At least they still have VGA ports!

Moved to Mac recently and can't live with the terrible font rendering on low res display. Plus I do more video editing than anything else and not having at least 4k res is a PITA.

I have ended up taking the chance on a Kuycon G32P. It's basically a Chinese ripoff of the studio display XDR, uses a new LG Nano IPS Black panel, 31.5" and 6144x3456. DisplayPort, HDMI and USB-C.

£1385 including shipping I've paid, delivery is meant to take a couple of weeks.

I did consider the Asus, Dell, and LG options, but I have a nice shady study on the north side of the house, and I'd rather have the glossy panel....and there's absolutely no way I can justify the PD XDR.

You'll have to update with how you find it.
Just got my shipping notification, will post when I get it.

Now I need to offload my 49" ultra wide before it arrives and the missus goes mental all the massive boxes cluttering the house :p

I was going to get a Mac Studio as well after this, but I'm editing 6k footage on my M4 Mac Air again today and honestly it would be really hard to justify the expense when this laptop does such a solid job. The occasional little hitch if I scrub the timeline very fast, but otherwise perfect.

I've actually been looking at a Mac Studio, but there's nothing I do that is slow on my M1 MacBook Pro. And I was going to get the M4 version in black, but again I figured what's the point for my workflow and bought an extra year of Apple Care instead. I don't think I've ever had a Mac/laptop this long. I think I'll keep it until I can't extend Apple Care on it.
