What film did you watch last night?

Better Man (2024)

I'm not a massive Robbie fan, but I've been to loads of shows with my wife and I do like enough of his songs to sit and watch this with her.

To my surprise it's actually a good film, the idea of making him appear as a monkey is very effective. It reminded me of Rocket Man (2019) in they way it had staged musical numbers interspersed throughout the film, with benefit of Robbie singing the vocals. It's funny and sad in equal measures and even if you're not a fan, it's still a very watchable film.

7/10

Captain America: Bland New World (2025) - 6/10

The special effects looked great and the action was fast paced but the plot was slow and whilst functional, lacked the stakes of other superhero films.

The older cast looked out of place and the roster of B-list characters made it feel like a spin-off rather than the main event.

The rest of it was fine; a bit boring in general and lacking in character, humour and thrills, but nothing really stood out as good or bad, just middling entertainment.

Nosferatu 6.5/10 (5 being average).

Slow start which it seemed to put the two main actors in a difficult screen position. Depp seemed a little wooden but got better and was surprisingly good toward the end.
Old school cinematography with long sequences with little cutting also makes it feel slower.
Liked it - definitely a nod to the 1922 movie and I liked that.

The Gorge - 7/10

I was dying to watch this the moment the first trailer dropped on AppleTV+. The mystery of what was down there combined with a romantic element of two snipers from different worlds sounded so good. However I didn't hype myself up knowing this was from Apple as their film efforts mostly fall slightly flat and this did.

Both main cast members shine and Anya Taylor-Joy looks gorgeous. The chemistry between Drasa and Levi was great to watch. Another top A lister is utilised so poorly however and they could have done a better job revealing the organisation she worked for.

Overall it is a good film, but it fails where it really needs to shine - the 2nd half of the film.

The popes exorcist

6.5/10

Started off well with Crowe being his usual brilliant self however fell off a bit with the plot towards the end.

Captain America Brave New World, 7/10. Would have been 6/10 but only paid fiver at the soon to close Manchester Odeon.

Not sure it is going to do to well at the box office but the other 2 in the cinema watching it did stay for the not worth it end credit scene.
