Road Cycling

I never use a saddle bag, don't like the look of them. I have a hard shell cannister thing that unzips and fits in the bottle cage. For a longer ride where I may need two bottles I use a cheap wallet type thing in my centre back pocket. Coppers off Temu, both of them.

HR Monitors: Talk to me.

I'm going to give up on my Wahoo tickr. This is a replacement one but for some reason 1/3rd in to my ride it decided to stick on 120bpm and never change. On the Wahoo it just showed "---" but when you'd go into sensors it said a value of 120 or something.

Didn't realise I could broadcast from my whoop to my Wahoo so I may do that going forwards but would still need to get one if I cancel Whoop. Thinking maybe an bicep band one would be better?

I just got the magene h603 and it’s been solid.

Had absolutely zero issues with the Garmin HRM. The new one is a little different as it has to adhere to new EU regulations I believe but either way, its been rock solid for me.

Went out for a ride today hoping that the threatening sun would rear its lovely head but unfortunately most of it happened for the 30 minutes before I left. Was largely overcast, windy and cold but on the plus side, all the upgrades I have bought recently worked a charm. Merino wool leg warmers were great once I warmed them up. Toe covers left my toes lovely and toasty. Quite literally felt like they were by a lovely fire. New gloves were just that little bit warmer than the old ones and that was perfect again.

Bit depressing every time I go outside at the moment and Garmin basically says "well done, your fitness is now at 8". I really is dumb. I could put Pogacar on my Garmin and it would say I have **** fitness, largely because at this time of year about 10% of my rides are outside vs indoors.

Garmin HRM Pro has been faultless for me. I used to use my whoop to broadcast to both my garmin head unit outdoors and direct to zwift indoors but it gets lots of drop outs, only for a second or so at a time but it measures that as 0bpm so gives false average readings.

My saddle doesn't allow the mounting of my mattone saddle bag due to the rail shape. I have just been chucking the essentials in my jersey back pockets. Multi tool, dynaplug, CO2. I could chuck a spare tube but honestly I can just call the support car if its that bad.

Yeah, i'd never thought before, but i've really been struggling to mount my saddle bag due to the rails. It takes ages to try and force the straps through. Yesterday i gave up mid ride trying to re-fit it and just shoved the bag into my hydration rucksack!

@Junglist I alternate between casting from my Garmin watch and a Magene strap. Although i've recently been getting weird readings from my Magene where yesterday it said my highest bpm was 202 which i'm 99% sure isn't accurate. I'm actually thinking of switching to a Wahoo one.

Yeah, don't forget this little gem

I use a wahoo arm band for the turbo and a standard Garmin chest strap outdoors. I managed to rot the wahoo chest strap press studs - probably just needs a new strap.
I wouldn't use the arm band outside, it looks 'wrong'

I didn't think to check the temperature. I just saw it was going to be dry. Took me ages to warm up once I was home. Was all fun and games until my friend got a puncture and sitting around for 10 minutes took all the heat out of us.

So, I think what happened was we stopped for a coffee for about 25-30minutes. My guess is the strap went to sleep or maybe got itself locked. Wish there was a button you could tap on the device to reconnect or something. As I only noticed it stopped tracking 20 minutes later. Was going up a big hill and it seemed like hitting my chest didn't wake it back up and I had a few layers on so was difficult trying to disconnect and reconnect the device.

It was the magene arm strap I was looking at @Martynt74 but maybe the Wahoo arm band one would be better.

That is pretty annoying.

I had an annoying thing yesterday where i'd moved the Redshift seatpost to my road bike but didn't torque the rail bolts up and twice one came loose leading to flappy saddle. I've got a Crankbrothers multi tool but the shape/angle of the bolt means i could only turn it 1/8th at a time before the tool was blocked by the stem. Took ages to tighten it again. Definitely need to think about carrying some normal allen keys i think given they're pretty lightweight and compact.

Yeah, and I guess because it didn't properly track my heart rate trainer road hasn't accepted it and not changing future workouts based on increased load.

Just a bit annoying. Can't really justify buying another one at the moment so I guess I'll just have to keep an eye on it in the future and make sure to reset it after any lengthy stops.

What time of the night were you cycling?? And have you joined a cycling club or was it just a mate you were out with?

Night? We set off at about 8am and back by 1130! It was just bitterly cold. It was fine if we were moving but once the cold set in, that was it.

Na just me and my one friend!

I find just jiggling the strap can sometimes get them to wake up again. Good thing is your PM didn't go to sleep.... Thats the real nightmare scenario!

Mines doing that at the moment. If I undo the cover and do it up again it seems to be OK but I don't know if I need to just give the metal contacts a little clean and lift. Very annoying though.

Thats viciously cold so kudos for not sacking it in. I was considering going out early but "hey siri, whats the temperature outside" soon put paid to that and it was only 2 degrees here. When I went out it was 4 degrees with "feels like" -1 and that was chilly enough.

I got a free Hammerhead HRM that does that... makes it useless tbh... hence I use my Whoop. I just leave it broadcasting my HR all the time. One less thing to remember for a ride!

Yeah I didn't realise that the whoop could be paired to a Wahoo. I've still got a few months of my yearly sub remaining so going forwards I'll just use the whoop.

I care about accuracy, up to a point, I'm not an athlete digging through my data so I expect the Whoop is 'close enough' that it does the trick.

I think I'll use the Wahoo strap for indoor training sessions as you don't ever stop but going forwards I'll broadcast from the Whoop.

I just saw that it wasn't supposed to rain but I didn't actually look at the temperature! Once I was out and warmed up though I was fine. Though I had a fair amount on! Neoprene overshoes, winter socks, leg warmers, regular rapha bib shorts, the rapha base layer with built in neck warmer and my assos jacket. All together kept me quite warm as long as I was moving.

I also think that as long as it's dry and I manage to warm up, I'd never get home regretting going out. I just enjoy the outside so much more than Zwift etc.
