YouTube Premium

Why do people buy premium or want it?

I mean, if its because of no ads then just use Brave browser! Thats what i use. No ads..

Or, is there more to having premium YT?

Because I mostly use Youtube on my TV or AppleTV so I don't want adverts there. I listen to a lot of videos where I don't need to see a video so I like background play. Downloading videos to the iPad is helpful for longer journeys to keep our toddler entertained/awake.

If all you do is watch YouTube on a PC or Android phone I suppose you could manage without it but for me YTP is a no brainer.

Saying they provide a better service is a stretch as you’ve already stated your viewing of YouTube is restricted via chromecast, what exactly makes this a better option than Premium for say those who watch YouTube on multiple devices, aside from sponsorblock that is?

FYI Poland still works, a bit dearer than what we could get before but still a lot cheaper than the UK prices.

I’m happy to pay the still considerably cheaper YouTube Premium and not have to worry about using 3rd party tools to get things running properly.

Well obviously it's a subjected opinion, but for me, (who uses a chromecast with google tv), it is a better service. That's just the way it is for me. Obviously your millage my vary depending on how you watch. Not being a premium member also has the added bonus that if I accidentally click a notification on my phone then hit the back button, the video no longer plays in the background! My secondary device for watching Youtube is a browser with U block origin, so again, better than premium.

You couldn't even sign up using a cheap country which literally takes 1 minute to do.

And now you're preaching rubbish about how these apps are better than having YTP.

Stop chatting out of your ass just because you couldn't work out how to do a very simple thing.

Are you ok? Do you need to take a few minutes to calm down?

It's ok to have a different opinion on something. Just try and use a bit of intelligence old chap, and try seeing things from the other side. If you're happy to pay for YTP because it works for you, great stuff. That doesn't invalidate my statement. Smart Tube offers me a better service than paying for YTP.

We really need some giant yellow text at the top of this thread (like the one in Speakers Corner regarding the strike system) that says:

Before you enter this thread to post such guff as "I don't get why people want to buy Premium when you can just use uBlock, Brave etc. Please educate yourself on features other than ad-free viewing that are only accessible through purchasing Premium. Such as being able to watch ad-free on non-Android based SmartTV platforms such as WebOS or Tizen, or being able to download offline YTM playlists to your Garmin running watch so you don't need to take a phone with you in order to listen to music"

Other than the Garmin which I have no knowledge - webos and tizen seem to have options for what you suggest they don't. And I imagine it's ublock Origin, not ublock people would suggest.

I do understand the point you're trying to make and your frustration, but you've kinda assumed that others who enter the thread definitely don't want to consider the options, whilst also highlighting the fact that you don't know enough about the alternatives while trying to build a case against being informed.

I think the only person assuming here, is you. My post was tongue in cheek because time and time again there are people entering this discussion with the sole purpose of deriding those paying for something because they assume you can get it for free. Yet time and time again, those users are corrected because there's reasons why people pay that aren't related to simply blocking ads.

Please don't make assumptions about what I know. I have a WebOS TV (but use YT via a Shield Pro) and have previously owned Tizen based Samsung TVs in the past 10 years.

I know full well you can go through a 10 to 20 step process to enter a dev mode on WebOS and have to sign up for a developer account to side load an app for ad-free YouTube. Cool, that gets YouTube on my LG television but I still can't download offline content to my Garmin watch.

Everything is a compromise with these workarounds, I have the Smarters app on my Shield (to test out sponsor block considering I already pay for Premium) and it's much slower than the official app and has a much worse UI.

If people wish to discuss alternatives to getting something for free, they can knock themselves out. They do do that without questioning why people pay for it, that's the point I'm making.

It really didn't come across as such to me, especially the "Please educate yourself" bit. But if that's the case then I apologise.

Which is why I said I understood the point you were trying to make

So why make an incorrect point if you know better?

These things are a compromise in some cases, in others they're better (sponsorblock). Questioning why people have Premium, IMO, isn't an issue. That's where the discussion begins if they're unaware of the alternatives. The issue is when people badger others, and by that I don't mean someone switching to a different reason for having Premium and them being told that there's a solution for that too - as I'm potentially about to do.

As for your garmin watch - I'm surprised it doesn't have the ability to transfer audio files over to it. Unless I've assumed incorrectly and it does indeed have that feature, in that case you can download playlists for offline playback - whether the bitrate suits your needs vs premium is a different story.

The Garmin bit relates to the fact I don't own the music as I'm streaming as per my YouTube Premium account. You download it via playlists on the YouTube app on the watch and that's a feature only available on Premium accounts. It was the same on my WearOS based Galaxy Watch 4.

Yea I which case I suspect you'd fall foul of copyright laws if you download them off youtube without premium at a guess. Though even if you'd had the cds and ripped them yourself you'd still fall foul of copyright rules (in the UK) annoyingly SMH.

I would assume the files are inaccessible, I know the workings of Android well so in the case of the YouTube WearOS app, it'll save the files to the data partition in the apps data folder and only the YouTube app itself can access the files there (hence the need for either root access to elevated ADB privileges for third party backup apps to get at that data).

Obviously there are other ways than going through the app (getting them on desktop and transfering the files), but I love the simplicity of making or choosing a playlist and selecting that to be available offline. I measure things in pints and down here, YT Premium costs me two pints a month.

Yea that's fair. Desktop is very easy to do, but yea you need to then transfer it over.

Use a bit of intelligence? You couldn't even sign up using a VPN, shows your level of intelligence and makes your opinion irrelevant.

If you don't want to use YTP then that's your problem, but you're just chatting absolute breeze about how these alternative free methods are so so so much better than YTP.
