What is traffic film remover? imo this just looks like another car shampoo or snow foam liquid in a bottle which is what im already buying ? thats not going to get rid of road grit before a polish and wax
You said you needed to remove "Road Grime" - which is exactly what Traffic Film remover is for.

You didn't say remove grit - If your wash isn't removing grit then you've got problems.

What clay bar do you recommend then ? (P.S i dont want to pay £20 for abit of clay). I have spent £44 so far on polish, collinite 476 wax and some snow foam
Bilt Hamber Auto Clay - £11.95

Sorry, may have mis communicated

My snow foam should remove the normal stuff when it dwells, i doubt there will be much on the car at the moment for the claybar, but i will give it a light going over, and i will be cleaned and stored again for when i re-use it

Luckily the Collinite wax is proper wax and very good, it should last around 3-6 months
thanks, ill look at some more jazzed up clay

Definitely miscommunicated. Clay bar imo isn't something that you should need to use every wash.

After snow foam and rinsing with a pressure washer there should be no real "grit" left. You then follow up with a wash mitt and normal shampoo to remove what little dirt etc that is left.
If there is anything else stubborn remaining then you treat it with specialist removers (rather than having to scrub aggressively with normal shampoo) e.g. tar remover, or fallout remover (e.g. especially on a white car) before a final rinse and dry.

Claying removes stubborn contaminants but can often cause marring/micro-scratching (as the contaminants are pulled across the surface) so is best used before polishing (which in itself shouldn't be done on every wash, as polishing removes wax and very fine layers of clear coat/paint).

Ok

I may keep the current bar I have just incase .

I doubt i will need to remove much road crap with claybar just yet . May do the clay next time and I'll just use snowfoam and two bucket method and dry with fibre cloth , then polish and wax

Cut it into fifths or quarters when you get it, so that you’re not using the entire clay bar in one go, if you don’t already :-)

Nice!! I did mine as well. haha. M240 bros!

What tyre black do you use?

Garage Therapy Tyre Serum is perfect if you like a nice matt finish. :)

Ahh thanks,
But I actually prefer the glossy look. Sheen to gloss.

On the subject of clay, I do believe not all clay is made equal. One of the first clay bars I used was from a Maguire's kit and the clay fell apart very quickly, but the stuff from Bilt Hamber is much better.

I used Squid Ink detailing Citrus this weekend on the other half's Kia Sportage wheels as a pre-wash, she doesn't frequently clean her car like I do mine. It did an incredible job at 1:4, the black contamination was just bleeding off.

I've always wanted to try KKD Citrus Magic but I'm pretty sure they've gone bust? Seems to be out of stock everywhere.

I am starting to doubt the effectiveness of snowfoam TBH, or at least the BH stuff I have. I washed the missus's absolutely filthy white car yesterday 'cos I got fed up with her lack of drive to do it.
After a SF and jet wash there was still a lot of cleaning to do, IDK if I remember the SF being better or its gone off, or just a bad product. Mine usually doesn't get that dirty between washes so often I go straight to jet wash and 2BM.

Still loving the benefit of Geon Wetcoat for effortless beading though !

Sounds like I might have to give that a go ;)

Which BH pre-wash do you have? Auro-Foam or Touch-Less? Have you calculated the PIR for your setup? I know it is seen as a faff but if you're just chucking X ml into your cannon, you could have a really weak final dilution.

I do find white cars (I kindly washed the white Jeep Compass courtesy car I had a little while ago) do show the limitations of pre-washes more than dark colours. There's always going to be a film remaining that needs mechanical action with a wash mitt to release.

There are more powerful traffic film removers that will probably remove more but it's a fine line between results/time/risk, TFRs can stain plastics for example of allowed to dwell for too long.

Auto foam, I usually just stick around an inch in the bottom of the SF bottle and fill with warm water.
I must admit I normally add some TFR in with it, but appears that I had run out and not replaced it.

I have just ordered 5L of the Squid Ink Citrus Pre-wash, £29.99 with free postage from the website, seemed a decent deal.

For context, with Autofoam I need approx 500ml of it in a lance to get the recommended 4% PIR. This would be a fair bit more than an inch, so it may be that it’s too diluted.

Furthermore, Touchless is MUCH better at removing traffic film and general winter dirt in my experience. It is also more concentrated, so you need 2% instead of 4%.
