What film did you watch last night?

For those that saw Sinners, I agree with high scores - really enjoyed it.

Apparently there were two end credit scenes, I saw one. Did anyone stay right to the end to see the final one? Apparently it was a bit shorter.

G20 - 5/10

Derivative and nothing you haven't seen before in Olympus has Fallen, Die Hard etc. but perfectly watchable brain-off action filler.

Heretic - 6/10. Good to see Hugh Grant playing a baddie. Decent A24 film but the ending pushed it into 'seen it all before' territory. The filmmakers said they left it up to the viewer to decide which is a total cop out.

I might give that a whirl, always enjoyed Hugh Grant playing a nutter trying to hold it together.

8 / 10.
Watched this last night. Enjoyable and almost turned in to a comedy / farce in the middle but the ending was some-what jarring and ambiguous / odd

Haha yeah it did. i thought it flowed really well and the ending as you said was a bit odd!

Finally got round to watching The Substance. We’d avoided spoilers for the most part, so didn’t know much about it going in, other than it leaned heavily into the body shock genre.

Initially, thought it would be a subtle commentary on how stars (especially women) feel under pressure to stay relevant to audiences, but subtle it wasn’t. It got more and more bonkers as it went on, before going into some sort of homage to The Thing / Braindead for a fun, but daft last 20 mins.

Good performances, but way too long and probably only a 6/10.

Watched The Beekeeper, Jason Statham doing his usual thing and at this point it kinda feels that he is turning into a Chuck Norris replica where he doesn't even try to play a different character.
Still a fun throwback action flick and what you expect from his movies nowadays.
6/10

Novocaine : 6/10

Silly but enjoyable action flick, where the twist is the main character can't feel pain, which leads to him getting some pretty brutal beatings!

The Monkey : 5/10

Started off well, with that Final Destination vibe of something bad is going to happen from an array of possibilities, but fizzled out about half way through and limped through to the end.

Couple of nights ago but watched Strange Darling. Starts off like a horror, some disturbing scenes. Can’t say too much as I don’t want to spoil it but worth a watch.

Edit - the first 20 minutes seem bizarre but it all makes sense in the end.

Watched Sinners. My word i was not expecting it to be that bad based on some of the ratings here. So slow and boring for the vast majority of it and the rest wasn't great either. Very disappointed.

Some old gold recently:

Hard Times 1975 with Charles Bronson and James Coburn. Set in the depression, Bronson is a travelling man who happens upon a bare knuckle fight and teams up with the manager of the losing fighter to make some cash. Really great movie, well paced and some great fight scenes. Bronson in great shape for 52 and having seen The Great Escape multiple times it was fun to see these two together again in something else. 9/10

Thunderbolt and Lightfoot 1974, Eastwood and Jeff Bridges, road movie, bank heist caper thing. A bit overlong perhaps and definitely suffers from the male gaze in some scenes, nevertheless enjoyable enough and worth a watch. The director would go on to make The Deer Hunter. 8/10

I've been on a bit of an 80s kick recently...

In the last week or so I've watched:

Stand By Me
Great film, not much happens but it's a nice look at friendships. 8/10

Johnny Be Good

Silly knock about film, not a lot to like or dislike really, ok as a background distraction, interesting to see a young Robert Downey Junior. 5/10

Say Anything...

Light-hearted comedy, a bit nothing-ish but certainly watchable; young John Cusack is interesting to watch, and a classic visual with a 'ghettoblaster'. 6.5/10

One Crazy Summer

A bit daft and silly but quite good fun and an easy watch. Again John Cusack is fun to watch. 7/10

The Sure Thing

Light-hearted and likeable, nothing new or particularly surprising but it's an easy watch and again JC is good fun to watch. 6.5/10
