****The Official 5G Home Broadband Thread**** (Three/EE/Vodafone/etc)

Does anyone know if the ZTE MC888 from Three can be flashed with official ZTE firmware.?

Edit: never mind, found browser script that unlocks some of the settings I was after that are hidden in Three firmware.

I just been to Madeley Park Street 5G mast and testing it. The signal pick up 5G by around Andy's Fish Bar as the signal revert back to 4G+ by Madeley Cricket Club and bottom of tiny roundabout before Madeley Tesco. The 5G is too weak for further distance. Overall disappointment.

The test for 4G+ is very poor

The test for 5G NR is capped limit to 120Meg down but uncapped for upload. The same as Aqueduct 5G as it seem Three put capped on 120Meg as a throttling speed. How disappointed.

Seem both Aqueduct and Madeley 5G NR is capped and short distance. Really waste of time. Both 4G+ never go over 60Meg download.

Getting pee'd off with EE. Last few weeks I'm dropping 5G and falling back to 4G. It isn't the FW on the router as it has been stable for ages. Reboots or the like don't cure it. And signal stats are fine. Been getting quite a few texts from EE recently to say "they are fixing a problem in my area". Raised a few requests saying I've started losing 5G but they say everything is fine. I have to keep toggling the connection to say, 5G-SA, which kills the wan, then flicking back to Auto and it comes back to life for x random hours/days. Unfortunately, there isn't an option for 5G-NSA without also having 4G as an option. Urgh. Doesn't seem to help if I do a 4G cell lock either. Zyxel are confident it doesn't sound like an issue their end.

I don't think I'm hitting any sort of FUP either. Looking back through my stats for the last 6 months, on average, I use about 300GB a month (+- 50GB).

So to save my sanity, this weekend I'm trying out a talkmobile SIM. Cost £16 for an unlimited data plan. Not sure what Vodafone is like in this area; there appear to be a few masts according to cell mapper, none that actually go over the property so it's going to be a fun game of altering the direction of the FWA710 and seeing what I pick up. I'm sure I tried Voxi in the past and didn't have much joy... but that was a few years ago now.

I know Three works well but they do not play nicely with VPNs and I remember them telling me tough luck. So not going back to those guys.

Not bad. Glad I managed to get a 5G signal. Stats are decent too. Connecting to a mast 2KM away. :)

But I'm still monitoring potential disconnect. Router has been up 3 hours and in that time it was back on 4G. So that is potentially happening with Vodafone and EE on separate masts. Yeah, this is not looking like an ISP issue now! Will monitor and looks like it might be a support ticket. Hope the Router isn't on the fritz.

Yeah, I wish I was getting that kind of ping here...

Three's 5G seems to be pretty bad for me this last week, a lot of packet loss, 150 ping and connection speed is down to about 50mbit from 250mbit.

Their service status page says they are fixing an issue but it doesn't say what or when.

Is that tested on 5G stand next to the Tower Mast?

I was just testing in random areas tbh. Didn't go searching for masts.

The 3 signal in and around outer London is very inconsistent and rarely locks on to 5G in my testing. Enough speed on 4G to get me by but Voda and EE are way more reliable.

Hi - I have a Vodafone Gigacube. The model is MC888 Ultra. I am trying to configure the DNS settings but cannot see the option in the router admin page. Any ideas please?

Right, can't really work at home anymore on my FTTC, it's too slow. So i'm going to run a 30day rolling unlimited 5G with Three.

What's the go-to router for 5G? I don't need Wi-Fi, In fact, don't really need the router side as I use a Ubiquiti setup. Just want to hook in a SIM to a modem/router and patch through to my UCKG2+

I've been pretty happy with the supplied NR5103EV2. You can get them reasonably cheap as well. It has bridge mode (modem only), so I run mine with my own router and a Zyxel AP for wifi.

I was just going to get the SIM, but looks like If I select a Home BB plan I get a Three 5G Hub MC888AD

Oh I think they've changed what they are supplying then.

If you read further back up the thread there was some discussion about routers and best way to get the cheapest pricing and not be locked into a contract.

Edit: Oh I see what you're saying, you can avoid the modem cost by going on monthly pricing.

It really depends how long you plan to stick with it to be honest. If you wanted to try it I'd just go on their 30 day trial and cancel it, then buy second hand hardware from CEX and a sim only plan if I had to do it all again.

@Journey how easy/hard was it to get a 3 business broadband sim?

my contract is ending with 3 5G...and FTTH, although the cab has been upgraded last year, doesn't seem immediately fortcoming to my home :(
looks to be able to get business unlimited 5g for £10/mth and if i get a router from CEX i'd break even within 9 months - or even less if i sell back the router in the future
just wanted to know what the procedure is to get the business sim
