I did tell you that![]()
Yeah, the problem is that there isn't anything interesting for sale currently. That's a terrible spec, especially at that price. Mine was £34k and has all the packs with only slightly higher mileage. I was searching for Tech, Comfort and visibility pack at minimum.
BMW are stating that the inspection light on my idrive is for the MOT - although that is feb 2026 :/ so sounds like the inspection notification warning is wrong on the idrive or was programmed wrong if they set it to june 2026
Even stlll, they are saying that BMW only do a "healthcheck" when doing the oil/filter/air filter service - However said i should be able to "extend " the date of the inspection on the idrive to feb 2026 to be inline with my MOT -
hopefully they are right
Anyways booked in for friday
Confirmed the statutory vehicle inspection is the MOT..Iv extended the date of this on idrive to.feb 2026 which is when MOT due
Yeh I have set that nowIt's not programmed wrong. That's not how it works. The car can be MOT'd whenever. You need to set the date yourself as a reminder on the car. It is user changeable.
I did specifically ask you if you did this earlier.
I'm surprised BMW didn't just charge your for a vehicle check instead, since you were clearly going down that route and were already happy to pay an extra £90.
I wouldn't let them clean your car. If you're in to keeping it clean and scratch free yourself - which you seem to be from your posts in the Detailing thread - I wouldn't let their cleaners anywhere near it.
It's funny as I never used to let anyone touch mine even though i thought people were being excessive.
No, no they weren't, the cleaners they use are monsters.
So much for an SUV. Not long home.
Zero regrets, what a car. Significant step up over the F80 for ‘normal’ driving. Which is all I can do before the RIS.
I know it's a bit marmite, but pictures do not do it justice. Had so many people giving thumbs up, taking pictures etc on the way home, never experienced that.
Bought it from going for the X3M test drive, they had one in the showroom as we walked in, my wife and I immediately said 'we want it'. Unfortunately that one sold but we found another.
Extremely happy.
So what's the deal with the ZF oil change? My G31 will tick over 60k miles at some point this year, I mentioned a gearbox service when my car was in earlier in the year at Stratstone Harrogate and yeh just got the classic 'it's a sealed unit, doesn't need doing'. Considering the car is under BMW insured warranty (and will continue to be so whilst I own the car), if the gearbox develops a fault I assume BMW will just deal with it under the agreed warranty? Most oils lose their parameters at 10k km, you can see a significant difference. I can't find any english forums with tests, but there's loads of foreign (european) forums that clearly show the before and after parameters of oils. I stick to 7k miles on my daily drivers, anything that gets ragged gets oil changes between 500-2k miles or 12 months.
Edit:
BMW's long life statement is the biggest joke, BMW says that the oil in the ZF 8HP Gearbox doesn't need changing, whilst ZF recommends changes every 60k miles or 8 years... The actual manufacturer of the gearbox.

Am I better off just running it into the ground, far exceeding the suggested warranty interval by ZF or stumping up £5-600 for a local specialist to service the gearbox?
Yup I think and would look to own the car for another 3-4 years I imagine. Are you intending to keep it under warranty for the duration of the time you own it?

I wonder if you could get the statement that it's sealed for life and doesn't need changed at all in writing? So it’s not a conversation about risk then, more whether you want to for the sake of selling the car in the future.
It’s not a horrifically expensive job but it is complex, in that it needs to be flushed rather than just drained. From memory the gearbox can retain a good litre or two when just drained.
So if you do it, take it to somewhere that’ll do the job properly - a ZF specialist
A place local to me invested in the equipment to do it properly so there are places which can.
The (F87) M2 is more than "just a 2 series with posh M bits". Using your logic, you can apply that to any of the M cars, or indeed Audi RS and Mercedes AMG models?!Wow that's an impressive looking M2, didn't realise you'd swaped from the M3. I'm still in my M2 N55, bored of it tbh, it's just a 2 series with posh M bits.
I did have a look at a few cars the other week at Snows when the M2 and Mini were in for work. Prices are staggering these days, but I've never done PCP or anything etc. Right/wrong, no idea tbh.
If I was going SUV it'd be a Macan.

3-4 Years doesn't tell me muchYup I think and would look to own the car for another 3-4 years I imagine.
