AMD Zen 6 rumours

Our company bought 257 Dell XPS laptops this year so far, and they don't even come with a Ryzen CPU option, it's Intel or bust

I don't know what more amd needs to do to get into the OEM market

And I don't like the Intel Ultra CPUs in these things, they somehow feel slower than the older Intel stuff

XPS CPU options comes in ARM form too (lol), but their other laptops have AMD options. Inc the Pro, Pro Plus etc

Has anyone got trends of CPU marketshare over last few decades? this reminds me of old days when Athlon CPUs took hold and pretty much dominated intel for a while. I bet it would just look like a poor sine wave but with two market leaders that's what you get - with one having issued, the other is cashing in big time.

Glad AMD is not sitting still and continues with development work.

I think its still very much the case that Intel give the big OEM's insane rebates for them to limit AMD to only a handful of offerings throughout their product stack. Certain sizes/colours of laptops only etc..

For that matter I think they also still do it for mobo manufacturers as well.

How else can you explain that still after all this time Intel still get the best boards, even the likes of Z890/Arrowlake which A.I.B's must have known will be a flop when they testing them.

When AM4 first came out you can consider it reasonable that manufacturers didnt want to gamble too much on them, but in 2025 when AMD dominates the retail self build market seems fishy since the big OEMs dont use the likes of ASUS/MSI etc they use their own cheap as chips boards..

Yes and i don't think AMD care.... Intel are loosing money in vast quantities, all AMD need to do is keep doing what they are doing and Intel will bankrupt themselves through their own pig-headed war with AMD.

AMD are doing great consistently growing in every segment, increasing market shares, revenue and the size of their cash stash, they are also still strategically buying up companies to future proof themselves, because they can, because they have the money to do it, this year ZT Systems for $4.9 Billion, Enosemi and Brium for an undisclosed amount.

The only hope Intel have got is to disengage with this war and use what money they have left and do what AMD are doing, buy your way in to profitable markets, we are not in 2003, buy your future while you still can. There is no future in what you're doing.

That would be amazing tbh, especially on X3D CPUs. The frequency jump from the 7800X3D to 9800X3D was pretty decent. The same again or more would be fantastic. I will buy it day 1 either way. I'm CPU limited stupidly often with my 5090.
The 9950X3D boosts up to 5.7ghz so 6ghz is actually in the realms of possibility

9800x3d is only up to 5.2ghz but that will get pushed up as well most likely

Is there any confirmation at this point to say for sure what socket this will be on?
If not, it's it still speculative as to when that will be known.?

Thanks

Don't think there was an official statement beyond general promise for supporting AM5 through some years
But almost 100% Zen 6 is still AM5

Yeah, seems not anything official at this point.
Could be similar to still supporting AM4, by releasing future CPU's, just not their latest platform.

I sure hope so. 7800X3D > 9800X3D > 10800X3D (Zen 6) on the same motherboard would be insane. It sure helps when you can buy a new CPU and sell your old one, rather than having to also buy a new motherboard and RAM.

Was going to go for a new build with a 9800X3D but it looks like zen6 might be too good to pass up on. Might end up waiting for the 10800X3D. 12 core CCD is a big game changer as I was looking for an increase in core count anyway.

When were you thinking of building? It’s going to be a long wait for zen 6 X3D. You could always buy a 9800X3D now and sell it when the zen 6 equivalent is out. The cost of change won’t be awful. I’ve done it from the 7800X3D > 9800X3D and will do it again.

At some point later this year, but the 50 series seems a little disappointing as well so I figured I will wait for the 60 series and zen6 X3D to release and get my build done then. If it were just a CPU upgrade I would have most likely upgraded that to the 9800x3d

If you are not in any great rush, i'd wait. There is always something better around the corner. There is also the possibility that the 50 series super variants increase in price slightly, £50-100 more per sku.

Getting the upgrade bug here. 5800x3D with a 4090 playing at 4k on things like iRacing, Le Mans Ultimate and Warzone. Will be picking up Battlefield 6. As much as I don’t need it (I think) do we have any eta on these new chips?
