What film did you watch last night?

Superman 2025 - 6.5/10

I didn't like it, then I started liking it, then I kinda didn't, then I finished up liking it.

Loads has been said about this film here and on the other thread so I'll just say for me, a lot of the time it felt like I was watching a TV show where I'd missed the entire first season, so had little clue as to why some of the characters were there, or what they were about. I didn't see the wokeness that people have been on about at all.

It ended up being a hot mess of disjointed fun though.

Jurassic World Rebirth. Watched this with my 10 year old daughter. It’s dawned on me these type of films aren’t made for me but a new generation now.

I gave it 6/10 - fairly average, doubt I’ll watch again.
Daughter gave it 9/10 - loved it and to quote her “lost 1 point because not enough T-Rex and the rubber dinghy was totally not believable “

She's not wrong on both counts, but those were the least of the films problems! :)

It Follows - 8/10.

One of my favourite horror films. Bought the 4K bluray recently after having not seen it in years. Love the look of it and the soundtrack is ace. Only negative for me is that the premise of the film is more scary than the actual film itself.

Just finished rewatching the first Lethal Weapon film. It's been probably 4 or 5 years now since I last watched the series. Man, after not watching a buddy cop film in ages, I forgot how good LW was. I really missed the Mel Gibson and Danny Glover duo.
I've owned all the Lethal Weapon films on VHS, DVD and now Blu-ray. Love them all and try to watch them every few years, but my movie collection is getting so big now that it usually takes a lot longer between rewatches.

That was apparently a deliberately thing by James Gunn. As much as it's setting up the world the character inhabit, he wanted it to feel like you'd picked up a comic at say issue 3 and missed to first parts of the story.

Which I'm sure every has done at least once over the years.

Jurassic World Rebirth
4/10

What have we learnt? That a Snickers wrapper can shutdown a security system, Dinosaurs can be open source, and at the end of a bad day, everyone still loves looking at dolphins swimming :P

The highlight of the film for me, was the T-Rex having a lil nap snuggled up on the foliage, snoring away  bless it!

Superman 2025

6/10

Ehhh in two minds, the action parts was pretty good and fun, but some bits was just dumb. Mr Terrific was great and I thought I wouldn't like Lex but the portrayal grew on me. Overall a fun watch.

Zulu Dawn. Probably much less well known than Rourkes Drift but I like it.

The movie is ok, but my understanding is that it pushes old establishment propaganda in favour of accuracy.

The British lost because of poor tactical decisions due to underestimating the Zulus. They split their forces and failed to adequately reinforce their camp. This was possibly combined with a secondary factor that their rifles and the ammunition of the time had a tendency to jam when fired rapidly and repeatedly, which was what happened when the British were divided, spread out and facing a massive Zulu charge. However, the official version of events was to protect the reputation of Lord Chelmsford (a favourite of Queen Victoria) and put the blame on those distributing the bullets during the battle. Unfortunately that lie is perpetuated by being included in the movie.

Swordfish 4/10
My wife didn't ever get round to seeing this. I haven't watched this since not long after it first came out - after watching, I remembered why! :D

Personally thought it was alright as far as it went, there is some garbage albeit a sign of its age, when it comes to things like the hacking LOL. But great Oakenfold soundtrack.

That's a good way of putting it. (You'll see above, I struggled/didn't like the same thing)

That seems kind of an odd goal to me, but maybe that's something others would happily do? (Dive into a series, midway through)

Warrior (2011) Hardy and Edgerton - really good I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. The tension in the fights was good and the emotional pay offs landed and felt earned, would heartily recommend. 8/10
This is a hidden gem, I remember finding it years ago, and really enjoying it, it's short and sweet, with a near perfect casting 'for what it is'.
