It's not at all embarassing that you bought a dedicated GPU for your Goon Cave's Tie-Fighter monitor setup ;)
We wouldn't want all that porn homework wearing out that beast of a 9070XT, now would we :P
 
i could have got something far better for 40 quid or something but i wanted a mini sapphire pure

yeah posting on here deffo gives that gpu a good work out
i might have to bust out the dual gpu lsfg setup just so i can upscale and frame generate my way to enough posts to get into the mm :cry: :cry: :cry:

The 5800X3D is a Zen 3 X3D released in 2022 and based on 2020 technology. You are comparing it against the latest Zen 5 non-X3D technology so it's not exactly a fair comparison.

The Zen 5 X3D CPUs are objectively the best out there for gaming (provided your GPU is strong enough to take advantage).

My issue with all this is the hype.

The fact is, it's a minority of games that benefit from X3D, and the benefits are better at low resolution, in itself contradicting the point of high end gaming.

To further add insult, for a majority of games you see minor differences in FPS lows and highs, and you don't start seeing a worthwhile value until your dropping money on a 5080/5090.

Yet every time someone wants a gaming pc, it's X3D gogogo before they even see monitor specs.

A 9700x with a 5080 offers more FPS than a 9800X3D with a 9070xt, yet the internet is full of hate for the 5080 because at £200 more than a 5070ti it offers not enough increase in FPS.

The 9800X3D offers less performance per dollar than the 5080 in some regards.

Things have improved with BF6 as an example benefiting from X3D, but overall for many it's single digit FPS.

But hey, it's the best CPU because 1080p gaming is common with the 9800X3D and a 5090 GPU, as that's the benchmark.

I play at 4k 160hz. I won't get an extra £300 worth of FPS over a 7600x, and I won't see a massive benefit from the 9800X3D unless I get a 5080, but it doesn't mean that the 7600x is awesome and the 9800X3D bad, it's just hyped 1080p gaming reviews in an age of CPU/GPU scaling problems.


I would still rather have a 9950X3D than the 7600x
 
You should have listened to their marketing. X3D chips ARE the best for gaming. You bought an inferior product. That’s on you. As you say, ‘it’s great’, but it isn’t the best.

I take it you meant, value wise? As how is that possible otherwise, spec's wise? I know the 9700X boosts higher, but that's about it?

The idea of having that hardware, 5090 especially, and playing at 1080P, should be a jailable offense! People that are spending that kind of money, just to have a slight edge in CS etc at home, not as a professional, need get some fresh air and a life!

The 5800X3D is about 30 months faster. You have essentially just bought the same performance chip much later, along with another motherboard and memory. I’m not sure what’s great about that, other than it showing the AM4 part to be impressive three years later…
 
This thread is a testament to how badly reviews convey the reality of CPU performance for different requirements (and the not great state of CPUs currently where you can't just spend a load of money and get the best CPU all around possible unlike most of CPU history where the top tier CPU was usually best at everything).

this thread is testament to the fact that some people shouldn't be allowed near computers and the internet.
