or this

We’ve never seen CPUs where gaming performance is a primary focus before. X3D parts are new product segment. There has always been trade offs, there has never been single best chip.

In the past if you spent out on the most expensive desktop CPU at the time you'd get chart topping performance across the board (with maybe some tiny exceptions) maybe losing out to HEDT/Server CPUs for pure multi-threaded performance but that is another story really. Last few years if you bought the most expensive CPU it does not guarantee you will get chart topping performance in any given task, far from it in some cases.

Now what the best CPU is for someone very much comes down to taking a finer look at where performance matters to you and you may have to make a compromise for the best balance of performance or if necessary have more than one system to maximise performance for your complete range of tasks in a way which wasn't necessary for most of CPU history.

Even in gaming what is the best can depend quite a bit on what you do - i.e. for someone who multi-boxes MMO clients the 9800X3D may actually be a poor choice compared to say Intel higher end parts or the 9950X. For someone who is gaming at higher resolution and settings on a upper mid-range card they likely won't see much benefit from the X3D CPUs compared to someone who was say doing e-Sports and trying to drive 1080p with "lowpro" settings for a 300Hz monitor and/or using a 5090.

op starts a thread about how much x3d is apparantly pointless
someone replies with something that makes me want an x3d even more than i already did
yeah checks out lol

Ho by the way if you sell your 5800x3D to an AM4 sticker, with the money you can nearly buy a full am5 platform with a 9600X and be ready for the next gen of ryzens

I tell you X3D are overpriced see ?
