The Outer Worlds 2

It’s just the occasional shadow affected. I wish frame gen didn’t cause ghosting on the HUD or I’d run it.

The main menu is neat.

Edit: seems my frame gen ghosting is linked to HDR, so I have to pick between them. I’ve opted for HDR.

Was gonna say, haven't noticed any ghosting.

A good few hours in now and really enjoying it so far. It’s better than the first, gets going more quickly too. Obsidian are what Bethesda used to be. The game has a wonderful soundtrack, numerous quests offering different solutions, locations have become significantly larger, the world is alive and well-developed, characters can actually be influenced, factions are no longer simply evil - they have depth, the graphics and locations themselves are beautiful.

Was gonna say, haven't noticed any ghosting.

It just seems to be with HDR plus frame gen. I can live without frame gen, it at least feels very smooth even with slightly lower fps.

I do love this forum, game has been played by a few people and the only comments are how it runs graphically, from clothes to ray tracing.

Whilst I appreciate the complete lack of spoilers, I really want to know is it fun?

That's OCUK for you, people on here can't enjoy a game until they're happy with how it runs, a gamer on what we'd call a potatoe system doesn't give an F on his 24" 1080p screen, with a 3060. So the start point with any new game is always "How does it run/look?".

Gamers, and enthusiast gamers are two circles on a Venn diagram that converge a bit.

:D

Yup, first thing I do is crank the settings to max, and if it ain't running well, I'm not a happy bunny! :p

Strangely it looks far better in play than it does in screenshots or even in videos

Good because it looks quite dated in screenshots.

To be honest, the engine is really showing its age now and it feels like they are just polishing a turd.

Yes, it looks far better in motion and RT makes a huge difference in real time (the screenshot comparisons don’t show the impact RT has). The game looks particularly good in the large open world sections that are very detailed, no wonder the fps drops. On the plus side, it’s feels very smooth and without the number in front of me it feels like double the fps.

UE5?

Oh I thought it was creation. The characters in the screenshots still look like the usual janky Bethesda ones. Maybe it's just the art direction.

Thankfully not, it does look a lot better when playing it though. Character detail is impressive close up on max settings.

Apparently I’m not the only one having the HDR/frame gen issue. A couple of fixes posted here:

You don't need to play it to get Outer Worlds 2, they are in different galaxies.

Nearly finished with Paradise Island (I think)

I specialised in speech/sneak/lock-pick, but am finding my stealth (5 at level 9) isn't enough to execute most protectorate in one sneaky backstab. It was fine in the prolog but most of the time it says enemy is too strong, so it feels like a waste since I often have to get in to combat anyway (particularly in the vox) and am underpowered with guns

I'm playing on hard, don't know if that increases enemy health?

I've put nothing in to Melee, so I don't know if that helps, but I even took a flaw which increased stealth damage by 100%, at the expense of overall health

(might be 50%)
