What film did you watch last night?

The Perfect Neighbor

Documentary about a 'Stand Your Ground' case in Florida. Not a cheery watch but had to be done. Very impactful.

Wasn't sure whether to watch this, but decided to after your post.

Yea, that was a tough watch when they informed her kids...

Much better than I thought it'd be, engaging and as you say, very impactful.

Eddington (2025)

I don't know what to make of this one.

It starts off in a pretty straightforward manner, then I think it turns more cringe/dark comedy/political parody/conspiracy. Then flips in to a revenge/ murder/ frame the black guy into full on psycho shooting spree against an unknown terrorist group.

It's easier on the brain than Beau is Afraid, but not as narratively easy to enjoy as Hereditary or Midsommer.

From a technical point of view, it's a well made and well acted film. Emma Stone and Austin Butler have much smaller roles than you'd expect. Maybe they come back in the under development sequel. I'm not quite sure how you get a sequel from this based on what happens to the main characters, but we shall see.

6/10

I had such high hopes for this but was let down. It felt like it was designed more to people to ‘spot the commentary / analyse’ than it was to enjoy. It had nothing close to the emotional heft or humour of Beau is Afraid, as difficult as that film was.

Relay (2024) - 8/10

A couple of variations on the relatively standard thriller formula means the film isn’t original but is solidly made with good acting and some tension.

The story’s good if a bit simple and moves along at a steady pace and whilst the twists can be seen a mile off, they fit in with the style of the movie.

A little bit incredulous at times, but I enjoyed it.

Bugonia (2025) - 7/10

Weird and bizarre but also scarily relevant in its way.

The story’s relatively slow and shifts frequently in tone and level of absurdity, but the superb acting performances, strong visuals and great use of music kept it entertaining throughout.

The ending will be quite divisive but on reflection, it had to end the way it did.

I had plans to watch a load of horror films over October, I basically managed one I think, and it wasn't a horror, horror but Beatlejuice, Beatlejuice :)

I'd give it a relatively easy 6.5/10
I really enjoyed it, it felt lke they nailed the feel of the original and some fun new set pieces and gags.

Next year I shall succeed in my october horror viewing (although i've said that to myself for about the last 5 years), as I had a whole host of films planned out including about a dozen werewolf movies :p

Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc (at the Cinema)

I’ve been waiting for series 2 of this for ages so I was surprised to see that a movie was coming out.

Oddball teenage boy Denji, who is a sucker for pretty girls, finds himself torn between two love interests…

More bonkers, gory anime goodness, with the inevitable ‘anime flaw’ that they are quite happy for things to make no sense. Also, I think the attack style of the villain made things a bit less exciting than it could have been. I preferred the bumbling teenage antics of the first half than the action of the second.

6.5/10

The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)

There's not a lot to enjoy here really, especially when I know everything gets turned up to 11 for the Bond's next outing.

The corkscrew jump is impressive but ruined by the slide whistle effect. Moore's performance seems stiffer than his first, Britt Ekland's acting is worse than Ursula Andress in Dr. No.

J.W Pepper's return makes the film even more of a comedy than it really should be. Christopher Lee is a decent villain, but his demise feels very clumsy as was most of the martial arts portrayed.

Easily the worst opening credit song of the series so far and probably the worst score so far.

You can see why this didn't exactly set the box office alight.

It could only end that way for me too.

I just got in from watching Mission Impossible. I did remember a lot of it, and all the main parts, even though it's probably been at least 25 years since I saw it last.

I didn't realise it was a Cruise Production, and I actually thought Claire was played by Gabrielle Anwar. Doh!

Halloween - 10/10.
(4K UHD Blu-Ray and Dolby Vision)

I have never watched Halloween before, I must have been living under a rock! Such a good horror film, complete classic as many would agree. The music and the general panning shots etc are so cool.

It looked amazing in 4K too, and I finally have a Dolby Vision player, so that really added to the dark scenes too! :)
I’ve just watched this again and wondered when I last watched it. Can’t believe it was 7 years ago!

Still just as enjoyable, and as I mentioned in my The Thing review, lighting is a huge part of it, alongside such an iconic score too, in Halloween's case.

End of Watch (2012)

After @FISHGUTS watched it a few weeks back, I was reminded it was another one of those films I really should've seen by now and rectified that last night.

Initially I was put off with the way it was shot, but once I got used to the style I found it a really enjoyable watch. The relationship between the two main characters is completely believable, as well as their portrayal of police officers. The rest of the cast all do a great job and my only regret is that I didn't watch it sooner.

Highly recommend.

Madonna - Die Another Day
Alicia Keys & Jack White - Another Way To Die
Sam Smith - Writing’s On The Wall
Billie Eilish – No Time To Die
Adele - Skyfall: just because she makes Skyfall rhyme with Crumble.

I should've clarified the worst so far in the series as I'm rewatching the entire Bond series in order.

Even the bad ones are still decent Bond movies and still enjoy watching them. Moore is by far my least liked Bond.

DC for me, aside from Casino Royale. Turned JB into Jason Bourne - generic action movies with a James Bond skin.

Grew up with Sean C and Roger M as Bond. Sunday afternoons, Xmas time, all snug and warm watching Bond - epic times.

Goldeneye was the first JB I saw at the cinema but always watched Connery as a kid as my Dad was a fan. From Russia and OHMSS are my two all time favs.

I really hope the next actor can do a good job and they take it back closer to what all the classics were like rather than DC style.

If you've grown up with Bond from the early films, then it's easy to excuse their shortcomings when you rewatch them, as nostalgia hides a multitude of sins.

But if we're all completely honest Connery's and Moore's Bonds haven't aged well at all, like a great many films of a similar vintage.

By the time you get to Brosnan they've locked themselves into a formula that makes a film made in the mid nineties feel 25 years old.

Personally I feel the Daniel Craig Bond, especially Casino Royale was a breath of fresh air the series needed and as they went on they reverted more and more to older formula.

Although, watching Casino Royale at the cinema for the first time I came away disappointed because I didn't get a Bond film. But on repeated rewatches, it's definitely a great film.

The Spy Who Loved Me is my favourite Bond film by the way.
