Road Cycling

Sounds ideal for what you wanted & hope you enjoy! :D

Guess it might even fit into the passenger footwell in a pinch if you needed the whole of the rear for something!?
Yeah, it allows me to test the waters without any big financial outlay. road.cc really rated the Sora version of this vintage when they tested it (4.5/5 IIRC) and I can see why.

Space wise... If I know I need the space I'll leave it at home but if I get caught out (e.g. I visit a customer and they have kit that needs to come back) I can put it on the back seat to free up the whole boot. Joys of a company car I won't lose any sleep marking the upholstery! Unfortunately it is too big to fit in the footwell.

I'm on the road again next week so hopefully I'll get a ride that isn't mid heatwave so I can go a bit further.

2.5 hours in today, a little later start to allow the roads to dry out after the storm in the early hours. 5 minutes before I get home and someone driving the other way hurls abuse out of their window at me. I submit footage to Essex police with a a decent statement that I spent some time writing (including specifically their offences) but it was all for nothing, no further action. I decided to write to my MP about it as I previously complained to Extra Eyes and was told there is no appeal process but they were reviewing why there were so many "no further action" submissions so clearly no improvement has been made.

Got those go faster fish scales @bastic
Literally had no time to test them out...went for 10min spin...tried few bunny hops, down few kerbs and they are still round lol
At the airport now ready for Girona trip .
That will be a test for them .
Wonder if I will notice that 500g saving on weight and if they are stiffer . I wish they will be lol

Following on form a post a couple of months back, where I had a bike fitter come round and alter my three bikes. I still haven’t got round to getting the spacer and shorter crank length for my road bike yet. I’ve been diagnosed with having a slight FAI on my hip joint so I’m now prioritising getting this bike sorted.

Couple of q’s if anyone can help. Has anyone gone up to a 54t chainring? Also anyone bought from Ali express? They have a 170mm 54t dura ace crank for only $460. Cheapest I can get it here is $600. The 52 is even cheaper. Are they legit?

I haven't heard of dura ace crank fakes but they may exist. Is that a 54/40 as you have to remember the maximum gap between the two chainrings is supposedly 16 (I think). So you couldn't run a 54/36 even.

I thought about 50/34 when I did my bike, but like the range of 52/36 and 11-34. I need the bigger gear for the slightly downhill bit where I do my vo2 max sessions and was fine in the welsh hills the other week.

Same, I finally admitted defeat last year and dropped to a compact (50/34)

I could make it work but 50/34 is just better for me 98% of the time. I spin out occasionally on downhills but thats rare and I regularly found myself searching for the right gear on the 52/36 and spending too much time in the 36.

I'm a spin to win sort of guy so I could manage with a 36/35 gear ratio but I am already pushing mid 350w on plenty of hills around here at a cadence I like so it just made sense to move to an easier ratio.

This is the feedback I was looking for. Thanks. I'm on a 52 now, didn't think an extra 2 would be that much of a difference!

Man, i don't know about anyone else, but i'm genuinely loving the Bevel app. It's free as a basic package, but the premium version is only ~€50 for the year and i think it's worth it. It collates all my health data and uses an AI agent to give feedback on everything from my nutrition (was tracked with MFP but switched to locally within Bevel), pulls in data from Garmin and weight data from Apple Health.

I know there was some discussion about AI training partners before, and maybe they'd be better for specific cycling plans and integration to TrainerRoad etc for workouts, but i've got it to create me a Training plan factoring in the 2 events i've got planned and also asking it to incorporate keeping running, cycling and strength training in there. It's also included some short daily foot/ankle mobility sessions because i've told it about historic injuries.

It's also setup a weekly debrief to review the prior week. I know it's only AI and pinches of salt are needed, but it's a nice training partner and customises suggestions based on recovery/nutrition. As an example, when i was in Girona it actually suggested specific places to eat and suggestions of what to order to maximise readiness for the Traka

@Vandle I think i'd generally be hesitant of anything branded from Aliexpress. There's a chance it's legit but i don't think i'd trust myself to be able to tell a fake from the real thing.

Can you just get 170mm cranks for your existing crankset?

Had a good ride sunday, although pretty brutal as much faster than my usual outdoor rides!

Headed out with a faster club who have a Club run on sundays than my usual Social Club rides (has no sunday ride). After a 'lazy' week due to the heat (had 37-38 degree peaks here 3 days!), then away with family on the saturday needed a good hit out to 'get back on track'. Also a good test of my legs - knowing I should be able to hold on! The pace was hot, 9 riders out and 7 of us rolling turns in a semi-paceline. Thankfully soon knew I was going well - the first drag out of town 300W felt good, my turn came and after asking for pace earlier in the ride ("20/21mph") I settled into it, but realised I'd ridden a few lengths off the front. I guess most guys bigger than me so not providing much draft for the guy behind. I'm too aero?! Sat up a bit to be sure of a regroup, then pulled until on the next climb. My next main test came holding front wheels on some rolling parts before a solid climb at Lentwardine, found myself alongside a very strong guy I didn't really know. Solid pace early parts alongside him chatting a bit, then was quite glad a call behind came to ease!
Slight slow/regroup at the top, almost back together then we where scattered on the descent down to the (early) lunch stop. Some good food and chat, the second half the ride was along more back roads so pace a lot more stop-start. 3-4 of the others rode off the front so we stayed split for some sections between junction regroups. Rode this part rolling turns with Roger & Ted (who I knew before), Dan who had some gear issues & Ray who being by far the oldest had been working hard just hanging on to us. Before Ray peeled off dropped back to give him a wheel for the last part, then had a solo chase myself. Gap was too far so although was closing it legs where running out so had eased before I then caught Dan. Regroup just before town and everyone went their separate ways, I headed home after making some good time to be back for lunch! while some of the others went to the pub... Maybe next time!

Mornings are the best time of the day. Get out before work has ground you down and very few people are out then. Traffic was horrific on Tuesday afternoon, took me 12 minutes to travel 1km to the first set of traffic lights and had to experience impoliteness like this:

You didn't bother reporting that one as didn't expect them to even look at? Jaaaaasus. I get it could be slow speed but realistically that is barely inches between a wing mirror and your arm. I'd wager easily getting a 'positive' response from West-mercia where I am. Yes, it might only be a 'drive awareness letter' but better than nothing...

I've got 2 to report from the weekend and one from this mornings commute, neither of the weekend ones anywhere near the severity of that (close passes where overtaking car has bit more than a wheel over centre line) and will be 90% sure they'll get letters sent! The one this morning was just a stupid & impatient overtake on a blind corner. As it wasn't a 'close pass' will be more of a test to see if they want to do anything with it.

500grams saved lol need to go for a quick spin on them around the block before i pack all up and fly to Girona on Sunday :D
Enjoy them and have a great trip!

Yep sounds like council need some pressure on the police to implement better processes & systems! Good luck!

Its a funny one because I think if you look at the difference it makes its not massive percentage wise. I just found that it didn't feel right for me. Its a bit like the 1x vs 2x debate. Some people have zero issues, I found that on my gravel bike I was rarely in the right gear for the cadence I wanted. Perhaps its habit and what I'm used to. Perhaps if I didn't have 2x as my daily driver I would quickly adapt but it just felt off. Same with 52/36.

Is that the app that was being sued by whoop for copying them? The app that showed that in fact they had the designs they were being sued for copying before whoop did and therefore if anyone had copied anyone, it was the other way around.

I let this one go on Sunday, hopefully the girl in the passenger seat told him off. https://gopro.com/v/86898c20-874b-4d17-aaf3-5c0320d5d454

Brakes have gone squeaky again after washing the bike. :(

Reviews seem to say its legit. Just no box and packaging with it. They are cheaper but not so much so that it raises a flag.
Decided to keep this current bike for a while so thought may as well upgrade form Ultegra to Durace while Im at it.
