The performance seems fine but the release, what a sham.

AMD tell people the cards have new mining instructions and then in a different thread, Gibbo states that he is asking for 449 but AMD are worried about miners and so increase the price which hurts the gamer's they are trying to protect? Something not quite right here. The whole mining thing seems a poor excuse to gouge money from people. Everyone can see it's never a 549 card.
 
It's a 1080, 12-18 months too late.
It's good for people who prefer AMD and have Freesync monitors etc but it's not going to capture AMD any new business or take sales away from Nvidia.

Hopefully they'll be more competitive next year so when it's time to upgrade again prices will be cheaper.

Do you have any link to this? All I remmeber seeing is a slide that boasted about it's compute abilities and tacked mining onto the list. IMO that says more about AMDs lack of understanding about mining than Vega's ability or the potential existence of any mining specific instructions.

Wouldn't say too slow unless you only play specific titles it does poorly in but drivers I'd imagine will fix this.

Air cooled load temperature seems to be around the same as a 1080FE but I imagine it will be chucking out a bit more heat into the room with the increased power usage, from reviews though it doesn't look as massive as some are making out but still it's not really something you can defend from AMD. It's also slightly louder by a couple of decibels than a 1080FE.

At the £450 mark the price was fine. The 56 looks like a better choice if you don't need the bit of extra performance from the 64.

Not from the benchmarks I have seen?

What I really meant AMD has accomplished with this new technology to be on par or better than the established 'old' technology every game is optimized for.

I don't mind the power consumption, still saved some from the upgrade of FX-9590 to 1800X :)
 
Picked up a Vega 64 and an Oculus. Been waiting a while to upgrade from CF 290X to go with my 144Hz Freesync monitor.

£450 seemed a fair price for Vega 64. Wouldn't pay £550 for it, though.
 
First time here since i bought my MSI 7970 Lightning in August 2012.

Was hoping to buy a Vega 64, £450 seemed reasonable, and was ready to drop the cash on launch day.
Didn't realise I needed to be ready to drop the cash on launch 45 minutes!
£550 is comically bad value, is Vega 64 coming back at a reasonable price?

If not, my 7970 will have to soldier on...

You can spend 450 and get the same performance from a 1080... I don't understand why you are GPU less..?
It amazes me that people would only buy from 1 company, in the end the only person losing out is you.

In my case, it is linux support. As Vega will mainline the driver into the kernel. Upgrades without breakages.

However, £100 premium for a noisy power hungry performance-equivalent to the 1080 sucks.

Be ready to pick up a Vega 56 at launch in 2 weeks time. Should be able to grab it for under £400, hopefully £350.
