The RX Vega 56 Owners Thread

Mate you don't need to be a pro and the mod does NOT need to be accurate to the mm. If I was local I'd shout you a beer and walk you through it - but make you do it so next time you'd not have a confidence problem. I do get your angst - it's a bit of a risk and not exactly a cheap card.

Can anyone in London give this guy a hand?

Thanks for the advice mate, much appreciated.

My Kraken g10 has arrived and am just measuring out the holes for the mounting bracket and backplate. Any advice regarding heatsinks for the other components; mosfets, vrm, etc.??

Ok back again with another issue with this card I got for a clients build. The previous issue seems to have gone with a fresh windows 10 install but this time around when gaming, the monitor switches off as if it has lost connection with the 56 GPU. I've got him to try the HDMI and DISPLAYPORT cables and it happens to both. When gaming the monitor loses signal to the GPU. Anyone had this problem before? This build has given me headaches as this has been going on since September. Client is getting narked off too as he just wants a PC to work.

Rest of his system is

6 core ryzen @ 3.6
550W PSU
Tomahawk AMD MOPO
3000 RAM

My guess is this part: 550W PSU or a faulty GPU... my money goes on the supply though. Vega needs good clean power. Can you try it on a 750+ decent supply and see if it makes a difference?

In Vega product description:
  • Power Supply Connectors: 2x 8-Pin PCIe
Recommended Power Supply: min. 750 Watt
It's also worth checking that the 2 8 pins are off of a different run from the PSU if your running on the edge like this machine possibly is. What PSU is it btw? If you dig back through this thread there were a couple of people with 650+ PSU's that were having similar issues.

Don't bother, there is more risk in mounting sinks to them than not. Provided you have decent airflow in the case the G10 fan will circulate enough air to cool them. They probably run cooler without copping the latent heat from the GPU via the stock heat sink truth be told. I've had nil issues.

My mistake it's actually a 600W 80 Plus Bronze supply. Surely that's enough for a vega56 and ryzen setup?

Just because it's a 600W 80 plus bronze, doesn't mean it's not working. Surely you have a spare power supply lying around that you could use to test it out.

we have had people in this very thread with 750 watt PSU that that had issues. Depends on the rail config and how you have it you might get some millage making sure have both 8pin from seperate feeds plugged in. I would at least try a solid supply that you know wil do the job.

Powercolor vega 56 + EK acetal waterblock. I'm hoping to double the performance vs my 4 year old GTX 780.

Welcome and on TROH.:)

To get on the Roll of Honour all you have to do is post a pic with your user name on it of your Vega 56.

Ok my vega friends, why oh why does my card in battlegrounds refuse to perform correctly (its only in this game)

So.. i have riva tuner giving me details when running the game.
Im running at 1080p and very low everything apart from ultra textures for testing purposes. The card is on the 56 bios or 64 bios with only +50% power as a tweak.
The first game i play of pubg the fps is 90-144 and kinda stable but then every game after that (even if i restart the game) the performance tanks to 60fps and lower, its like the card is choking on itself, it reports the clock and hbm correctly but refuses to use more than about 50-60% of the gpu and instead the cpu goes up to 80-90% usage.

Does anyone know why this is happening? it seems to me like something is wrong but only with battlegrounds, because if i run Cod WW2 and do 400% upscale of 4k it runs 100% gpu and i get 30-40fps which is amazing.
It's been happening for a while now and it's the one game where i need the fps to be stable, like when i first run the game.
Also if i run pubg in 1080p 1440p or 4k, i get the exact same frame rate 30-65fps bouncing around it doesnt care what settings i change it seems to adapt itself in the MOST annoying way, even if i force the max and min of the p states to the highests clocks, it then chooses to just use less gpu just to p**s me off....

Any light shone will be welcome.

Thanks for reading.

PUBG does have a reputation for being pretty damn terrible, especially on AMD gpus.

I'm baffled by the frankly pathetic combined score in firestrike considering the gfx score and the physics score. https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/23197577

There is something wrong only with your combined score, i get more fps than that on my 6600k about 25fps, but only 28fps on the physics test to your 70+

I fixed Pubg by safemode DDU twice, then downloading the full new driver from amd site, now im playing at 4k with ultra low everything apart from ultra textures at 70fps +/- and its rock steady on the clocks.
No overclock needed at all just stock settings, as soon as i undervolt or OC thats when it starts to go banana's

Hopefully Vince can sort me out with that dubious eiswolf cooler and i can destroy my vega completely or by some miracle make it work, then i will go water cooled 64 bios and leave it at that.

Flashed the bios on mine to a 64 air and all good so far. Wattman is rather peculiar insofar as it doesn't seem to remember everything. Fresh boot this morning and it had forgotten the power target of +50 but remembered all of the clocks and voltages.

Folding performance is pretty impressive, getting just shy of 700K PPD.

I've uninstalled 3dmark and am reinstalling the newest version as I had 2.3 something and they are on 2.4 now. (update wouldn't work for whatever reason)

Try disabling fast startup, restarting, and then enabling it again.
