I got myself the 3600 today to replace my 2600. Stock run on my GB aorus M B450 board was around 1580ish in Cinebench r15. Wasnt impressed with that. After some quick tuning in Ryzen Master im at a 1725 MT with a ST score of 203 which i find rather good compared to the old 1360 MT and 159 ST of the 2600. This is with a cheap kit of 16gb (2x8) 3200mhz CL16 Kingston ram.

Do r20 please, so I can compare a few things, if you would.

Brilliant @Phixsator thanks for running those tests for me.

In essence I was looking a direct comparison with my current system which is an old 6 core xeno on the i7 920 style motherboard, and this gen of ryzen basically is outputting results more than twice what my system can achieve while overclocked.

just for clarification that 500 single thread score is while all core overclocked to 4,3ghz. But personally i am very impressed. I believe Ive beat the best 3600 score posted in the r20 bench thread.

I noticed that, it is grand max I can achieve is 226 or so.

Perhaps it's time for an upgrade. The 3600 is cheap, a good solid b450 board is also cheap and the ddr4 16gb kit im using is also cheap. I think the grand total for all 3 parts is the same as what i paid for the 4770k alone back in 2014... thats pretty mental.

I've currently got a 1700X on an X370 Taichi board with a 1080ti card. Would I see any performance raise putting a 3600 into the X370 or would I be better off going the whole hog and getting a X570 board?

I have two Ryzen systems, one with R7 2700/ 5700Xt and R5 3600/ 5700. I don't see any difference between the two even switching gpus. They play same games at same rez.

With a 1080 Ti, GEN 1 and + will benefit from fast ram and tight timings. Like 3466 CL14.

I went from a 1600x in X370 Taichi with a 1080ti, to a 3700x (keeping the same mobo) and I did notice an improvement in frame rates across the board (mainly minimums) although it's not mind blowingly better.

do you overclock or are you running your CPU at stock?

I went the whole hog and got a 570 motherboard with a 3600. Came from a 1700x on an X370 motherboard. And just like you, with a 1080Ti GPU. It was noticeable boost in performance in everything. But I am not sure how much different it will be if you just change the CPU. Also, I don't overclock the CPU, so YMMV, but, for me, the change was worth it.

Which board did you go for? Some of the prices of the 570 boards are way high, I'd have to seriously look into them as I wouldn't need all the guff that some of them come with (wifi etc). I used to love re-installing Windows after doing upgrades but nowadays I find I'm not as enthusiastic about doing this and find it a bit of a chore.

I went for the MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus. I didn't need all the guff either and I have been very happy with it.

We have some members here that are running R9 3900X on X370 boards. The Taichi is one of the best motherboards of every Gen. The only proper replacement for it is another Taichi.

Just saw this in another thread.
