Silverstone Sugo SG05

Yeah i was tempted to buy a new chip but thought i would keep costs down for now! Just realised i was a bit vcore happy, was trying to hit the 3.5ghz that i was running in my old rig and realised that it was prob asking a bit much..my temps were already poor so settled for 3ghz (for now) but never dropped the vcore! Temps are still a bit high but i still got more to drop :)

Happy with the board/case overall though..except the crappy nvraid, might just stick with a single drive and reclaim my optical drive!

Probably could make shift something to hold a second drive there but would get close to the cooler and also block a good porition of the front intake! Since i have a 120mm fan sitting on the cooler there deffo no space for it, here how mine setup atm.

I put my vcore to default and seems stable so far with orthos running, idle temps down to low 40's and load hovering at 63, dont think i will get much better out of it unless i replace the front intake fan for something with a higher cfm but then i i dont want the noise!

Great pix. I see the problem.. either a thinner fan or a 92mm fan MIGHT allow a 2nd HDD but its awfully snug. I'm just about to build a dual Atom ITX in the Compucase 8k01 which seems to have more room that your case!!!

thanks, yeh very snug!..only annoying thing is i forgot to screw in the wirless module and to mount it i would have to rip out the mobo, really cba with that! will just leave it loose inside for now i think..

I was gonna get the exact same case, looks very nice, prefer it to the SG05 but there was no way a 4850 would have gone in there! I'm still tempted to also have an atom build with that case for a nas setup, just depend on the funds and some deep thinking of do i really need it..saying that if i hadnt gone out last night i would have been 1/2 way there!

For anyone who has struggled with the pushpins of the Scythe Shuriken on the Zotac 9300 ITX:

Scythe have the CPU Cooler Stabilizer 775 which is way easier to use, especially if, at some moment, you have to remove the cooler in order to change the cpu or, if the worst comes to worst, to RMA the board.

Here is a picture which also shows the only orientation of the Scythe Shuriken in which it does not interfere with any motherboard components:

Scythe provide a pushpin removal tool, which is very easy to use once you understand the principle. The pushpins are replaced by pairs of nuts and hollow bolts, into which one has to screw thinner bolts that pass through a retention plate at the back of the board. This last is quite straightforward: All that one needs to do is fix the retention plate to the back of the board using masking tape, place the cooler on top of the cpu, then slide the board to the edge of the table, so that two of the holes become accessible from below, put in the screws, tighten, then rotate the board and repeat with the other two screws.

Just bought this case with a 9300 as well and was wondering what sort of temps are people hitting? I applied some AS to the mobo heatsink and it sits at about 45c, the cpu however (E6400 65nm) which is currently at 3ghz is idling around 45-50c but up to 75 under load! :S

I'm used to water cooled temps of 40-45 load, but surley that a little hot?! not really sure what i can do about it, i have mounted the heatisink (Scythe Shuriken) twice and added a 120mm fan ontop of the cooler it but hasnt really helped all too much..is this just the limitation of the cooler? the air flow is ok, although the hot psu directly above the heatsink isnt all to clever, the heatsink fan is exhausting air btw not blowing.

I get the same temps (lower on load) on an E5200 passive under an NT06-E. Will have to add a slimline fan under the cooler when i go quad i think...

Is it true that the sugo's psu is slightly smaller than a normal atx so replacing it could be very tricky.... hope its not true sort of bought the case because of the fact I can swap out the psu maybe at a later date.

I heard its slightly slimmer and not as tall so none of the screw holes line up which means lots of mods....

The PSU that comes with the case is the only one that first without modding. However fitting a different PSU isn't too challenging a mod. I believe there's an mATX Seasonic that just about fits (it's longer or something) or you can fit a full-ATX PSU by bending a bit of metal and drilling a few holes if you use a small enough CPU heatsink.

To be honest though there's really no need. You'll have serious thermal issues long before you shove more than 300W worth of components in there. Something like a Q9650 and a GTX-285 just wouldn't work without water cooling.

Hi

I am thinking of getting the SG05 case and Zotac board and using some spare components such as a Q6600, 2 x 2GB corsair and a 500GB Samsung F1.

Question I have is will the Stock Intel Heatsink and fan fit without issue (not planning on overclocking) also I am correct in thinking that the Zotac board has only 2 Sata sockets ? I am not planning on using additional graphics as will be mainly used as a HTPC

Thanks

Silverstone quote the maximum heatsink height as 78mm, which is a bit conservative, an SG05 with a Zotac 9300 ITX will allow up to about 85mm. So, no problems with the stock Intel heatsink, but you may also go for something quieter and more efficient, e.g. Scythe Shuriken. You are correct about the 2 Sata sockets. There is a solution if you want a second HD, and it is to use a Slim SATA to USB converter for the ODD, e.g. http://www.addonics.com/products/io/adsssau2.asp.

Hi

Thanks for the reply, had not seen that type of adapter before and will be useful for when i get a SSD drive to stick in the machine to have the DVD on the USB. Have decided to order the cooler as well but in the past have had issues fitting some coolers due to not being able to get to the pus pins due to fingers not wanting to bend the wrong way etc.

everything should be arriving tomorrow and I will be building over the weekend and install Win 7 RC.

Cheers

Guys I'm having great difficulty finding a gfx card for this chassis given its limited 300w psu. :(

People have been talking here about cards which I'm sure are rated as needing 450w psus...

Is it the case that the 300w sfx psu will actually power these cards ok? I'm looking at getting a fanless 9600gt but even that mentions in the manual that I'd need 450w?? And as far as I know no other psus can be purchased in this form factor which is more powerful than 300w?

Can anyone help me out here?? some advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

See my earlier post http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=14166738&postcount=67 for the Scythe CPU Cooler Stabilizer 775, which makes the installation of the Shuriken very straightforward.

By the way, Scythe have now introduced the Big Shuriken, http://www.frostytech.com/permalink.cfm?NewsID=76966, which seems to provide the best cooling solution for the Zotac 9300 ITX. It is already available in Germany, but I have not been able to find it an UK supplier.

450W in the graphics card ratings is the expected maximum overall system power consumption. A Zotac 9300 ITX system with a 45nm 65W cpu without graphics card has a maximum power requirement of about 100-110W, which leaves plenty of margin for a reasonably powerful graphics card. The 9600GT should work all right and is unlikely to get the overall power requirement over about 200W.

Thanks for the reply betaspin.

This is the card I'm looking at getting. Do you think it will work ok then?
GV-N96TSL-1GI

Out of interest can anyone recommend an actual alternative psu which definitely fits the sg05 and is more powerful? What's this seasonic matx one for instance?

Powerwise, it should be fine. I am not sure about the length, though, it should not be much over 9" (Silverstone specify 9"). Looking at the position of the 6pin connector with respect to the radiator fins (there are good pictures on a well-known US site), there is a high chance that it will fit without problems.

The largest psu I have seen in the SG05 is a SeaSonic SS-350SFE 350W, but it required some modding, see the thread http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1399181. A second psu that fits without modding is the Seasonic SS-300SFD, it is a bit weaker than the stock one, but noticeably quieter (I have it in one of my two SG05 boxes).

Thanks again betaspin.
Gigabyte have quoted the cards dimensions as this,
PCB: 211x 111mm
Dimension: H=42,L=236,W=132 mm
I'm guessing the PCB numbers don't include the bracket?

This should be ok then shouldn't it?
