*** The 2010 Gym Rats Thread ***

I went to a gym once and the instructor basically told me that I could not gain a "thick body" so to speak. He might be right considering my body proportions, so maybe if I simply gain definition along with some mass that would be a compromise? All in all, I simply want to help peoples perception of myself. Lord knows I could do with a confidence boost sometimes :p

body stats: 6'2(around that, maybe slightly taller), 69kg, so as you can see, not a broad frame :p

I'll post a picture later so you can see what I mean.

You have the wrong attitude from the start, you need to be more positive about yourself. You are correct; you're limited by just having those dumbells but it isn't the be all and end all, there are loads of compound and core workouts you can do without any weights at all. Try exrx.net for a comprehensive list of workouts with and without dumb bells.

Hopefully I can inspire you by telling you that I am 6'3 and I weighed 67kg 3years ago. I now weigh 93kgs and am very happy with my muscle growth all by eating well and doing some really basic workouts! Can't you get to a gym though?

Best of luck fella, remember you won't get results in days, if you're serious you need patience and will power.

I'll try and get to a gym but its a real trek away and is expensive as hell.

What sort of improvements would expect to see by Oct(ish) and by next May?

I started traying last May at 58kg, was 63kg by October. There's some pics of myself from back then somewhere in the picture thread.

All I had was plastic sand filled weights, nice cheap Argos yokes. Got the job done.

That picture you had of you in october was very impressive, congrats.

I look nothing like that ahhaha.

Well I've just finished my first HITT session today I managed 5 mins warm up and 8 sets of 30 seconds all out and 1min 30 seconds rest followed by 5 min cool down followed by some sick.:( :D

Am I doing this right? How many times a week should I do this?

Wooohooo!

Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!

240kg Deadlift - in the bag baby! (Raw, no belts or straps).

That's me up to 600kg!

:D :D :D :D

No vid unfortunately but SPW did witness it - I'll do it again with vid soon. :)

That is all.

Nice one mate. Knew you'd crack it :) You know the problem now though... you've gotta aim higher haha.

I've ate pretty much nothing the last 2 days so no heavy weight for me. Absolutely destroyed myself Friday night :o

Cheers buddy.

250kg is my next target for DLs - 1/4 of a tonne with my bare hands sounds pretty cool! :D

200kg squats for reps is also my next target. I can crank out 1 every time, but I just don't have more than that rep in me at the moment.

Seen this in the store (American store) - even the yanks slate it. I wouldn't go there I believe it's full of crap.

Ah, thanks. Won't be touching that then. :p

Congrats FF. You've worked damn hard and deserve it. Such an inspiration. :)

Nicely done FF :)

I finished my Training In Different Environments module today. Been doing it since Friday and whilst I've enjoyed it it has absolutley ruined me.

Bound to be tired from walking/jogging & doing some upper & lower bodyweight exercises round regents park for 2-3 hours 3 days on the trot which is understandable however my left Tibialis has COMPLETELY seized up.

It felt a bit achey as did the right Tib too the morning of the second day (speed walking seems to fry these). 45 minutes into day too and it's starting to get stiffer and eventually too painful to fast walk and then just eventually walk on, like somebody was pressing on a bruise x 1000. Jogging was managable as there was less/minimal dorsi flexion (pointing foot upwards). Got in the bath and gave it a soak and some more stretches and strapped it up overnight hoping it'd be alright for my assesement day today.

It wasn't as bad this morning and I deffinatley had no limp/swagger however a bruise and a raise lump were visable. Again around 40 minutes in it became very painful and impossible to move my foot up or down, manually it was pain free to move but contracting the Tib just wasnt happening. I had one of the women on the course have a look at it and she was shocked at how rock solid my tib had become, further towards the knee you could depress it and feel the side of my shin but from half way down and below she couldn't tell what was shin and what was muscle :(

Bathed again and tried some muscle rub and just had a cheeky 2 hour kip to catch up on sleep. Strapping it up and hoping it sorts inself out soon! It should do but it's bloody annoying! Sat behind a desk so it will get plenty of rest in the week.

I've never really stretched the Tibs before but will be from now on! Might need to get some acupuncture done too to help loosen them up.

Anyone got any good routines for a 3 day split? Preferably mon/wed/fri as my friend goes into uni gym these days and I think I may start (which means free barbells to work on my terrible deadlifts/do front squats :D)

Looking for something a bit more strength orientated but with a bit of arm work as I feel mine are lacking somewhat (5 rep sets for heavy compounds, 8-12 isolations??)

Nice dead lifting there freefaller :o
