sum up 2010

I've only bought one car this year. Seeing as I've been averaging 2 a year since 16 that's quite impressive.

What's not impressive is that I've apparently spent £1,234 on repairs and upgrades in the last 8 months, it hasn't actually broken yet and there is still an utterly ridiculous amount of work to do until I'm happy.

That and I can feel myself getting the New car itch soon...

You can't win :(.

Summary-

Good times:
Did the last of my "must do mods" (rear anti-roll bar)
Went to the nurburgring
Bought a new motor for the GF

Bad times:
Steering rack developed a terminal leak, broke a spring and knackered a clutch (got DMF done as well) plus a few other things which totalled just shy of £1700 in un-scheduled repairs.

You can.

How?

- Sell it and buy something soul crushing but save ££££ in the process?
- Make it awesome but blow every spare penny I have to my name?
- Slowly do bits and pieces but don't go overboard?

That last one is how I've played this year and to be honest I'm not enjoying it a lot. Still spending a fair bit of money and not making much progress in the process.

Right now I can afford it, but even then sometimes I do wake up and think "What the **** am I doing?"

Buy a better car to being with?

The 205 GTI-6 could have been great if you had thrown money at it, certainly better than the Soarer imo.

Started the year in my mkIV Golf GT TDI (red di) being quite happy with it. Broken front spring, replaced and have another plus new shocks for when I can be bothered to fix it.
Ending the year in same car having grown a strong dislike for it. Still like the way it looks but can't bear being in it anymore so will finish refreshing the suspension, with a mates help so no labour fees, before moving it on when I finally decide what I want next.

2010 for me, started out with the Volvo:
New MOT 45€.
2 new Rear tyres 160€.
New rear brake pads 35€.
2x a liter of topup oil 12€.
Themostat - 10€
a liter of coolant that leaked away from hose when replacing thermostat - 3€
Gear bearings- 11€
New window washer sprayers- 11€ ( replaced the pre facelift ones with facelift ones, which spray a mist rather than 2 rays of water)

30.000km on since buying, it's still going strong.

Then I bought the galant, which is now in the garage having it's clutch replaced for 640€.
Also spent a bit on 5 liters of coolant as it dropped all of it on the road. Rad was fixed free/at home with stuff avaiable.

Problem is that they are obviously very, very different cars. To be honest, I prefer the Soarer. Do not get me wrong, the GTI was an utterly fantastic car and it weren't even that good compared to some of them, but the Soarer is a lot more "Me".

Replace the Soarer with a 650i.

Started the year playing around with this, sold it a few months ago

Got its MOT next week though, and hopefully it'll fail dreadfully and I can buy something mildly interesting again!

Started the year with my Volvo C30 and have ended with it also. It got crashed into by one of my mates , who was at the time driving his immaculate DC2. Here it is before the crash.

And after

His car was written off, mine just needed a new bumper and rear exhaust.

A fine example of Volvo's safety I think :p.

I also purchased this in the summer as well

A '67 Triumph GT6. So all considered it hasn't been too bad apart form the £100 increase on my car insurance due to an accident that wasn't my fault.
