Come on MSI, update please?!

All being well OcUK should be receiving their first batch of B3 stock today. To prevent confusion, I believe that Nathwraith has created new product codes for these.

The email address that you speak of is for updates on the exchange program. I am currently working on a few teething problems for the registration site, it will be up as soon as I can be sure it's working as intended.

Thanks for the update :)

Yes, thanks once again Scott

A certain other retailer is selling B3 stock of the board I have while refusing to exchange my broken board for a B3 rev "because the B3 is a different product SKU" and refusing to issue me a refund on the board I bought because "it's the manufacturer's responsibility to bare the costs for this fault, not ours". I've not registered with the manufacturer for an exchange yet, but people who have done so recently have been told that due to demand it will be May before they can exchange. I wouldn't mind if I wasn't minus one SATA already...

Out of curiosity (and so I know where to spend my money from now on) what would OCUK's stance be in this situation?

Seems that users in the US already have their replacement MSI B3 motherboards, whilst us in the UK who pay far too much for tech still don't even have an update.

For the record, I registered by sending a blank email to the address that Scott UK MSI posted in this thread, and entered my email address on the following page http://uk.msi.com/sandybridge/

I've not recieved an email about what is happening. Come on MSI, update please?!

I bought my GD65 from a third party retailer(sorry OcUK) and they have a replacement B3 board winging it's way to me tomorrow. :)

It's just a shame that once again customer loyalty (we already have your money) falls behind getting them out to new potential customers(give us your money). it's not just MSI either, it's pretty much all of them. I know Scott will be doing all he can to sort out the issue for us, but ultimately decisions made above him will affect what and when he can do something, so his hands are tied to a certain degree.

Either way it wont stop me buying MSI products, that GD65 is a really good example of why.

One of yours has packed in then?

Yup. Crapped out a few days after they announced there were issues. Was having quite a lot of trouble with the system then one day it just stopped seeing the boot drive. Plugged it in to the SATA 6GBps port and... she lives! Tried umpteen SATA drives in that port and none are recognized.

I'm actually not certain it's the same issue that they announced (I don't really know what to look for), but I've definitely got a SATA port that ain't working right (and another that I accidentally pulled the plastic cover off because I didn't realize I was using locking SATA cables, never used em before). So basically I'm down to 4 ports with 4 drives plugged in. My impatience is mostly down to wanting to order a couple of 2TB drives, only got 150GB left between my current 3 HDD and my SSD.

Ive started a Dispute with Paypal as the retailer is refusing to give me a refund ive also posted in another thread on here.

Ive had to start a dispute with the Sheffield Etailer over my mobo cant believe that wont refund my money:

Dear dean

Thank you for your response.

This is not the case, Intel have only admitted a potential fault with some
of the sandybridge motherboards in that devices connected to SATA Ports 2-5
may degrade over time and only P67 and H67 Motherboards are potentially
affected. If this fault appears then you are covered by the Sales of Goods
act as you mentioned but as you purchased the item knowing about this
potential fault (as it was in the description) then we would not offer a
refund. The best option as aforementioned would be to contact the
manufacturer who can provide a replacement.

Kind Regards,

Jeff

This is shocking so they expect my drives to fail first resulting in data loss corruption or worse before refunding me?,nobody knows when or if when the ports will fail/degrade

I hope Paypal can help.

Some might say whats the big deal or rush but this is plain wrong from them now,so people moaning at OCUK should look at my case first,at least they are refunding B2 customers

I was earlier told that i could have a refund, an hour later all that changed

Earlier Email:

07/03/2011 10:48 Dear dean

Thank you for your response.

Please disregard the advice you have been given by my colleague as she was
not aware of the sandybridge situation. Only if the motherboard presents
the fault are you able to return it to ourselves for exchange but if you
contact the manufacturer direct they will be able to swap out the board
with the replacements. I apologise for any inconvenience or annoyance
caused.

Kind Regards,

Jeff

Bascially they will only refund when or if the sata ports fail and take my HDDS with them

wont be buying anything from them again which is a shame as i buy lots of stuff there.

If nothing else this sandybridge journey has served to highlight the different quality of service e/retails offer.

Pity I haven't found an accurate and consise account with details peoples different experiences. I would love to offer my custom to places that deserve it through word of mouth endorsments.

kmufc77, even if the SATA port fails it doesn't affect data on the drive, even if it's being read - it only affects data that is being written to the drive at the time as I understand it (IE if you're saving a file to the drive when the controller goes, that file will probably be lost - but everything else should be fine).

The drive itself is undamaged, the data on the drive is undamaged and all that is required to get the drive back into use (and the data from the drive accessible) is to plug the drive into a working SATA port, so data loss isn't really something to worry about with the sandybridge issue, or at least no more than it's an issue with any motherboard/drive controller or drive.

I'd be more worried about the drive itself failing in general and causing data loss than the sandybridge issue causing data loss from everything i've heard.
Mind you I'm paranoid about drive failures, to the point where I normally have multiple backups on different drives/media (I've had too many drives fail with various signs, at anything from a day old to 8 years).

Is it possible to send my Gigabyte P67 UD3 back to OcUK for a refund and get the replacement B3 version? I'm a little anxious as I bought mine back in January and as such, don't have much packaging left over (I have the manuals, CD and box, minus some foam and anti-static wrapper).

I can understand your frustration but they cant refund you for a product that "might" fail......... obviously if it does then you will be fine.

I think this whole topic has been blown out of proportion imo, imagine intel had never said anything I wonder how many people would have even noticed.....

My four ports went all at once on Monday. Everything working fine Sunday with no problems. Then on Monday morning one of my drives was missing, so I thought it might be a loose cable, turned off the computer and pushed in all the cables then rebooted and all my drives were back.

I thought everything was ok then, but, after about 5 minutes all the drives disappeared. My two main drives are on the 6Gb ports so no worries there, but my 3 other drives and my optical drive can't be used any more.

Going to start the RMA process I guess, but, will wait until better instructions come out. I purchased my Foxconn P67a-s from here.
