*****SANDYBRIDGE MOTHERBOARD CHIPSET ISSUE*****

Heh all,

I was looking to purchase a sandybridge i5 system either using the “Configure your own” option or purchasing a "Titan Spinosaur" pre-built system. (old age means i dont have time to build it up my self)

My only concern is the motherboard i do not wish to order a system that has the first revision sandybridge motherboards as they had issues on some SATA ports as outlined in detail here

Could anyone confirm for me if the “Titan Spinosaur" has the new revision of the motherboard? I noticed that selecting the same motherboard (asus p8p67 pro) when creating my own system stated it was out of stock and prompted me to select a different motherboard but I was unsure what (if any) were the old revision models.

Basically I am trying to avoid purchasing a pre-built system and then having to take it apart to return the motherboard for a replacement :)

Happy to wait until they do come into stock if that is the issue.

How can you get a refund when by the time you get the z68 board it will be way over 30 days?

The place where I bought my board have an open ended refund scheme in place with no cut off date, plus they will pay for the carrige to and from. So when I'm ready I(ie when z68 is out) I can just get a refund. They have also said I can buy a board first and then they'll refund me when I send the other back.
I'm sure overclockers will do something similar though.
The point of my post was that its not urgent to get a swap so people may aswell wait until z68 is out, there won't be much of a price difference, maybe a tenner.

At present most resellers are only receiving relatively small quantities of the B3 revision boards... hence the higher prices. Supply & demand and all that!

However it is now looking as if Asus will actually be starting their replacement schems well before the May date we are currently being given.

(This information came from a 'competitor'!)

^ You might not ever have any issues as i believe Intel have said/estimated around 5% motherboards are likely to fail/degrade when using the faulty sata 3Gbps ports.

If you do have issues i guess you will have lots of issues on booting up,drives disappearing/reappearing randomly, and data loss/corruption.

Of course there is no telling when or if anyone will have any issues, its the luck of the draw.

Y'know the more I think about this issue the less it becomes (an issue)

I'm only using 1 hard drive on the 6Gbs and 1 optical drive on the 3 Gbs port anyway and I have a 3 year warranty so if it does go belly up in that time, then I'm covered.

This was my first ever build and I'm quite chuffed the way it went. I really don't want to have to take all apart again to resolve an issue that most probably will never manifest itself.

I tend to keep my machines for a minimum of 3 years at least anyway. Resale values don't really concern me. And given that I jumped in last week and saved 20 % (over £70) on todays currrent prices (here - not where I bought mine) on an Asus P67 Deluxe and an i5k retail, well.

Do I care?

Those that use all the ports I guess have good reason to moan and complain, and quite rightly too if there's a danger of anything occuring, but personally speaking I now have a new PC that will happily sit at 4.8 Ghz all day long if I wanted it to?

And I'm massively happy about that.

Hey,

Well my raid constantly changes to needing to be verified every three days or so, the drives work fine in my p55a board, and they are connected to the sata 6 ports.

Not to mention that my pc isn't even stable at stock anymore.

Got my replacement Asus P8P67 Deluxe B3 board yesterday.
It was fully boxed with all extras, whereas I only gave them the mobo in a brown box... so I have double of everything. Teckle. :)

i just rang asus and they said "we'll add you to the list" i said thanks so it should be in the next few days i get a replacement as the retailers all have stock of the new revisions.

thanks you have a nice day ......

don't realise i have to drain my watercooling system and **** around for 3 hrs

my case has no motherboard tray that slides out , so only safe way to lift the board out without damaging it is to drop the lot out both rads etc etc its just too difficult holding everything without stressing the joints etc id rather drain it incase it springs a leak l:eek:

Seems that users in the US already have their replacement MSI B3 motherboards, whilst us in the UK who pay far too much for tech still don't even have an update.

For the record, I registered by sending a blank email to the address that Scott UK MSI posted in this thread, and entered my email address on the following page http://uk.msi.com/sandybridge/

I've not recieved an email about what is happening. Come on MSI, update please?!
