AMD Bulldozer Finally!

I've got two mates waiting on Bulldozer now patiently as I have told them when buying a system this close to it's supposed release it would be worth waiting for. I will be building both systems for them. They are happy to wait till around October/November latest. Good position to be in.

I think a lot of people are looking to upgrade around September/Octoer time this year, which is in time for having an upgraded system for upcoming big titles like COD and Battlefield. Should be interesting. I really, really hope AMD brings something good to the table here, not because I dislike Intel. Rather, competition is good for the consumer and future technology. If Bulldozer fails, it has the potential for Intel to maintain or even increase prices for Sandy Bridge and future platforms. AMD have often (not always though) pitched stuff at a much lower price point than Intel for similar or slightly inferior performance. I for one, would like to see this time AMD absolutely CRUSH Sandy Bridge...AND at a lower price point. That would shake things up nicely.
:)

I hope that AMD does somehow manage to pull this off, tbh I'm just waiting to see if its any better than an x6 in multi-threaded applications, I have a lot of video rendering to do and a compatible motherboard, so I guess I'll just wait and see.

still no news :(

What news are you expecting? We know almost certainly:

- That it will be available on September the 19th.

- What Stock Keeping Units there will be at which clocks and roughly which prices.

Benchmarks and reviews won't appear until an absolute of minimum of 10 days from launch.

Is that really true and for desktop chips?

Until AMD officially say it there is no point in any of use saying it, thats why people thought it would have been out many months ago and its not AMD's fault.

Link for the bit in bold?

Well all the recently leaked info points at retail launch on the 19th and their animé promo video even has the date September the 19th in it. They also recently reconfirmed that desktop Bulldozer chips shipped for revenue at the end of July, which means September (latest) availability.

Re: the SKUs, all the ones with dates on which were recent showed 8100, 8150 etc. not the prior 8130 etc.

I don't expect there to be large amounts of CPUs at launch, so some people will probably have to wait. Demand far outstrips supply at the moment. Llano has been hugely successful so far and will vastly outship Zambezi in terms of revenue. Interlagos has massively greater margins and is also launching in the same window ... so, basically, unless Zambezi is a total flop, I'd expect supply to remain tight until more 32nm production facilities come online at GF. I guess it'll be similar to Brazos, though not quite such shortages.

Well my new build is basically a Skyrim build, So I'll be building it before 11.11.11,. Which means I have plenty of time to wait. If Bulldozer hits and its awesome(Sandybridge winner) I'll be using it in my build, If it falls short of Sandybridge I'll be going with an I5 2500k. If they're on par, to the point you cant see the difference, I'll go with which ever is cheaper. Simples I suppose.

price uk for each cpu in range and how fast compared to 955 i have .

thinking of changing mobo a cpu maybe if fast enough difference

Well, now I've seen the silly prices that Q9650s have started to go for (£150-£190 used on Fleabay - sold listings), I'm pretty tempted to sell up and buy Dozer if it's even close to a Sandy.
Just always been an AMD lover since my first slot A Thunderbird and it feels dirty having S775 in my case.

I'm getting the upgrade itch, and BD would be enough for me I think.
Do you think it'd be a good idea to order a Crosshair V motherboard now? Don't wanna wait and find they are out of stock or go up in price if BD turns out to be a big hit.

I would wait until you see real benchmarks with BD ,besides Crosshair V is easy to find online ie plenty of online shops including OCuK have it,they all can't be out of stock at the same time ;).

This post appeared on the forum of a competitor and was made by one of their employees:

"The things i can tell you.

1. Bulldozer is here mid-Sept
2. Bulldozer will be very price competitive vs Sandy Bridge
3. Bulldozer is awesome - ha lol.
4. Every part is unlocked
5. It can OC very well!
6. AMD will be doing something special with LN2 very soon - 1-2 weeks. "

Take such things with a grain of salt, a lot of people are just acting out their own wish-fulfilment fantasies on forums.

Got to go now, there's some international terrorists that need killing with my crimefighting superpowers.
