Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

Hey Guys

Got my i5 2500k running @ 4.4ghz with the Auto Overclock on this board.

Anyone able to give me the settings to make that a manual OC? im a bit of a noob when it comes to the voltages and other options and dont want to fry my CPU or anything.

Cheers in advance

Just re-booted mine set the CPU ratio to 44 left all others on Auto and bobs your uncle 4.4

Then you can play about lowering the volts till you find your stable settings.

This might be a silly question! Do I need to change anything in the bios or anywhere to tell my mb it has a GPU plugged in rather than use the onboard graphics?

The reason for this is that I've tried both my own old 6800GT and the next door neighbours 8800GTX and both slow down my PC or in case of the 8800GTX it failed to get past the Starting Windows screen. Gone back to onboard graphics and everything is well again. I'm waiting to see what new cards appear before hopefully buying something new.

Try (in the Bios) going to advanced, primary Graphics adapter, and selecting Pci express. shut down. then plug your monitor into the 8800GT/X and boot back up see if that helps.:)

can someone do this test. run hwinfo64 with sensors only, then run IBT @ 5 runs, very high, 8 threads. and then monitor the readings that i highlighted below.

if i do 10+ runs the readings go to 80c+, and also if i run prime95 on blend the memory channel 0/1 rank max readings go to 96c+

If I install the graphics card in the middle (PCI-E slot 1) slot will it be x16? The manual says I should install it in the top slot (PCI-E slot 2)

Thanks.

Edit: I can't test it because my card is going to be watercooled and already have ram and vrm sinks on it, so can't put back on the original cooler.

The middle slot is likely to be only wired for 8x, take a close look at the slot and compare it with the primary 16x slot, if it's wired for 16x then it shoudl have metal teeth all the way to the end.

Thanks for the reply, i didn't realise you can use the long pice slots for my titanium sound card. I was worried that it was too close to the graphics card but it's not a problem now.

I dont know bud but i just ran Prime95 and my (mem channel o Rank max)
& (mem channel 1 Rank max) went up to 90 so i bottled it and stopped prime.
that what i mean, we need to know if these readings are important/true or dummy readings.

maybe this is why some people chips have died or degraded

Have you tried running with just one channel and lower voltages to see what difference there is? unless Intel have sensors on the CPU memory controller it's most likely memory PWM temperatures on the motherboard or just an erroneous reading.

As long as you're running the memory controller at the rated 1.5V then you have nothing to worry about really.

my ram are 1600mhz 1.35v

the memory channel 0/1 rank max looks like it's inside the cpu because it's under the intel cpu 0
