** The Official WWDC 2012 Thread **

So my question is I'm wanting an "ultrabook" to replace my Vaio and for the price (with 15% student discount) the MBA is looking like a pretty sweet deal. Buy now or wait til the Ivy bridge MBP/MBA hybrid thats being rumoured comes out?

Wait for the back to school promotion as well. Last year was £65 app store credit whilst not as generous as previous years still not to be sniffed at. And you will likely get the Mountain Lion update as that's due in the Summer.

Thats a Protip. When does this usually happen? August/September time?

iOS 6.0 - iOS 6.0 is in the works - Not a whole lot is known about it at the moment, but it is suspected to make an appearance (and possibly released) at WWDC this year!

It might be released to Beta testers or for those with paid account but i can't see it being released to the public till September at the unveiling of the iphone 5 or whatever they call it.

So now that Alienware USA is stocking Ivy Bridge processors can we start seeing these in the macs or is this a different kind of mobile processor?

The mobile CPU's available at the moment are only the high end power hungry ones, so only likely to appear in a 15" (and/or 17" if there is one) refresh.

Gonna be a while longer yet before MBA or 13" MBP's are updated.

There HAS to be a new iWorks!

Pages09, Numbers09 and Keynote09 are looking and feeling a little dated (although they have everything I need at the moment). But apple is meant to think of the things I need before me and implement it!

I doubt there will be an iPhone release, IIRC last year they said before hand they wanted the WWDC to get back to software and move away from hardware... Possibly expect some news on "mountain lion" ?

No reason why it won't be showed off, but i agree with the above, more likely that another version with "some of these new features" won't be released in the interim period.

WWDC is by design a software show. So i hope we're going to see a newly revamped iWorks and iLife

Hopefully with a fully 64 bit iLife so i can take full advantage of that 16gb of ram in my iMac :D

Sorry to slightly hijack the thread but im after a bit of advice. Im in need of a new laptop and my sights are set on a MBP. my current one is around 5 years old and can't cut it any more.

im going to need it as a standard laptop but also there are going to be points where im doing some video encoding. now. i dont quite get what the new ivy bridge is capable of. i understand it has an in built graphics chip. will this increase speed for encoding ? i would also like to be able to play games on my new machine. at the moment the only one i care about is SC2 so its not massive in the requirements but still i feel like i would like one with a dedicated graphics chip.

Ive read a bit about what to expect from the refresh but of course its speculation. i quite like the idea of having a large HD so dont really want an SSD etc. is it easy to buy the old MBP as soon as the new ones are mentioned / released ? at a cheaper price if the new ones aren't quite to my liking.

i guess the real question is. what is the ivy bridge going to do for me :) ?

Speculation says Ivybridge will bring better battery life and faster/better gaming. Until benchmarks are in of the mobile processors though it is just assumptions. I'm hanging about until I can see these.
