** The Official WWDC 2012 Thread **

How do these things usually pan out, would any major announcements (such as the new macbooks and airs) be made during the first day of WWDC or could it be at any point during the event?

LeVar Burton and JJ Abrams are speaking at the extra sessions... lol - seems weird!

They've always had lunchtime, non development focused, additional speakers. I think this is the first time they've announced it though; It's sort of an inspirational thing.

Previous years they've had guys from Pixar, Disney etc.

Rumour Round-Up - 10/06/12

It's been a busy three weeks for wherever these rumours come from :p But we are now just over 24 hours away from what may be the most hyped WWDC I've seen :p

With rumours of an entire Mac refresh, new OS updates and even AppleTV updates, this could be a very important WWDC indeed. So here is a round-up of the latest rumours...

The Mac Range

For starters, rumours have been heating up over the last couple of weeks of an update for most of the Mac line-up. Due to a leak of 27 new part numbers it's looking likely we'll see some new models, most importantly for; Macbook Air, Macbook Pro, Mac Pro and the iMac.

Whether these models will have the rumoured "Retina Display" remains to be seen, but software and OS updates are suggesting that Apple are preparing for the rollout of Retina Displays on Mac hardware.

Apple to Release Thinner MacBook Pro at WWDC

iOS 6

The new update to the iOS will definitely be making an appearance at this years WWDC, after banners showing the new logo were recently revealed.

There have been a lot of features rumoured, but the biggest is a new Maps app that will use Apples in-house maps instead of Google Maps. It is also said to have an incredible 3D feature. It's also meant to bring Siri to the iPad, and have a much deeper integration with Facebook!

iOS 6 to Bring Systemwide Facebook Integration
Siri Reportedly Coming to iPad with iOS 6
iOS 6 to Add Safari iCloud Tabs, VIP Mail Recipients, 'Do Not Disturb' Mode?

OS X Mountain Lion

Announced back in February, with features such as; Notification Centre, Messages, Reminders, Game Centre & Air Play. We are bound to be shown more features that the new OS is likely to include...

OS X Mountain Lion Bringing Automatic App Downloads to Mac
Apple May Add Secure Password Suggestions to Safari with OS X Mountain Lion
OS X Mountain Lion Adding Offline Safari Reading List Mode and Dictation to Mac

iCloud

It's a service that continues to be improved, and it's likely to make some ripples at WWDC this year. As well as OS X and iOS 6 banners, the iCloud Banner was also put up.

Few features have been leaked, but it's unknown whether we'll be seeing more than we already know.

Apple Bringing Notes and Reminders to iCloud.com with iOS 6
Apple to Upgrade iCloud with Photo Sharing, Notes and Reminders on iCloud.com

AppleTV

Little is known about an actual Apple TV set, however rumours are stirring about the possibility of new ATV software being demoed at WWDC to give developers a taste of the future.

Apple to Unveil Television Set Operating System at WWDC?

iPhone

Hardware leaks are beginning to slip through to the media, but these leaks suggest to me that we can expect an August/September release time frame, and shouldn't expect any new phone hardware at this years WWDC.

So there we go :p It's almost here :) I certainly can't wait - Just off to update the main thread with some live blog links - If you have any decent video/text links you want on there, just shout out and I'll add it :)

Another quick question which I don’t think really warrants a new thread. I've read people mention Apple's 'back to school' offers, what do these usually entail?

I'm going to get one of the new MacBook's that will hopefully be announced tomorrow with educational discount. I will be using it primarily for my dissertation and for some lecturing work that I have starting next year so I aren't really need it immediately (although impatience tells me that I need it now!). Just wondering if it’s worth waiting around a little before making a purchase

Think I got a £65 itunes voucher or something. I can't remember if there was anything else...longer warranty but I think thats just from the edu store anyway.

It used to mean a voucher for an iPod Touch. However last year was a £65 App Store voucher so who knows this year...

It is worth waiting as the promotion started mid June last year so shouldn't be far off and may even begin before the new Mac's are available.

Excellent.

I'm currently sitting here whilst my ageing Mac Pro churns out images from lightroom...I want an upgrade :p. It's going to take another 35-40mins to finish I reckon.

Aye, those Mac Pro's are long over due an update! :p

Macbook will be open for WWDC, and TV on for footie :p Looking forward to seeing what they have in store for us :)

Ditto only it will be my ipad and the tv :) Just got to get home in time!!! Dont finish till 5pm
