Is this enough to power the PI do you think? Looks like it only outputs 0.55A and on the PI forum it says 0.7 minimum?

Clueless about this stuff but at least I will know what else to order to prepare :)

I'm trying to do 1 single order for all the 'extra' stuff I need, I've selected a nice integral 16GB class 10 SD card, an ethernet cable, now can anyone link to a suitable charger (can't use my current chargers as 1 is being used for my phone, and my old one is a proprietary sony ericson charger).

I had a quick look for the Nokia AC-10x as someone suggested but could only find http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0044BB4JC and the Euro thing in the description leads me to wonder if it has a UK plug on it (no mention on if it uses a 3 pin UK plug or not), but one of the sellers is amazon themselves. If anyone knows of a proper charger using a 3 pin UK plug and is shipped by or sold by amazon then I would be grateful for a link.

Doesn't have to be sold by Amazon, mine wasn't and it's genuine (I have one that came with a phone to compare).

Mine was Genuine Nokia N85 UK 3 Pin Mains Charger AC-10X by Fonetech

I would just prefer it to be sold or dispatched by amazon as I'm ordering several things and would prefer to have it arrive at the same time. Amazon shipping has been flawless for me, and even their free super saver arrives before it's estimations. If I have to wait around for multiple deliveries, especially when some stuff is coming from Amazon anyway, then it's just more hassle.

If there is nothing sold/dispatched by amazon that is known to be good with the Raspberry Pi then I'll shop elsewhere, but to me I much prefer my stuff these days from amazon.

Also, I've yet to look into the install process and setting it all up (I will once it arrives), but I have 1 quick question, I plan to use it as a media device for my TV and so XBMC seems to be ideal. My thinkpad has an SD card slot (although I have yet to test it, I'm not sure if ubuntu knows about it) can I just put the SD card in that and set it up with XBMC so that I can just plug it into the Raspberry Pi and it'll be good to go and already setup to allow SSH without needing keyboard/mouse attached tot he Pi at all?

I don't think my charger was signed for.

I finally got my ModMyPi case, really cute looking case which has vesa mounts so that will come in handy. Been playing with the RPi a lot today and I've noticed though the RPi runs really hot, more so today due to the hot weather.

Tried Raspian out and its much more smoother than the regular Debian release. Also got my Tenda WiFi adaptor working, very easy to configure it, however it doesn't work for long on the RPi USB unsurprisingly as it cant power it, and if you have the mouse, keyboard and wifi plugged in the system stops responding and the keyboard and mouse lose power, so I'll need to buy a powered usb hub which is annoying as I was hoping to save space and cable.

Does anyone know of a way to control the power to the Pi without needing to switch it off at the wall? Or if Raspbmc supports suspending the device? Just realised that if I use it as a media device its going to be on all the time :(

True

Edit: Ah, rubbish, Raspbmc requires a keyboard to be attached when setting up so you can enter the root user and password. Can't be bothered to try and untangle my PC keyboard from the mess of wires down the back of the desk :(

I haven't seen any prices yet, but looking around it seems 5 MP camera modules only cost $10 (£6.50) retail, which seems remarkably cheap. Of course they will be cheaper bought in bulk.

I'm going to guess £10, maybe £15.

Edit: A few pages back in that thread:

Please remember this is a cheap as chip camera phone sensor - don't expect miracles! Given the final price will be between $20 and $25 for the board, connector, camera and probably some encode licences, it's not going to be Nokia 808 quality!

And it seems it might be ready in 3 months, which means we might see it in 2 years time. :p
