If all you want to do is get some media viewable on XBMC, then just throw some stuff on a FAT (or FAT32) formatted USB memory stick. XBMC will be able to see and play them all.

If only I'd had the common sense to think of this before....

So far today I've been through setting up an Ubuntu Vbox and failing to get it to recognise my SD card. I then moved onto an Ububtu live CD in my laptop first to resize the ext4 partition and then to copy a bit of sample media onto it to test. About 3 hours in I finally got to test it.

End result though, it played a 1080p mkv smooth as silk. Well chuffed.

I am being drawn towards Raspbmc instead though, for the simpler Windows setup and the auto updating.

Also, I've robbed my SD card from my camera to test. I will need to buy one for the Pi just for the OS. What is the recomendation? A decent branded 4GB Class 10?

I spent days trying to find info on a working easy to setup WiFi dongle...

Gave up and ordered a WiFi Ethernet bridge instead. Id be interested to hear if you get a dongle working though, far less messy.

I bought a Tenda WiFi adaptor, instructions seem simple enough: http://blog.modmypi.com/2012/06/installing-tenda-w311u-mini-wireless.html

I haven't tried it though as it required a powered USB hub.

Anyone bought a case for this?

I bought a case from ModMyPi, scheduled to arrive next week after a 2 months wait.

My pi was delivered today, what would be a decent os to test out first?

Try Raspbian, it's the most optimised OS for the RPi, download links are on the RPi website.

Farnell took payment when they were delivering, at least that was how it went with the pre-order.

They kindly emailed me and asked for new card details as I mine had expired between ordering and for filling the order.

A 2GB or 4GB Class 4 SD is going to be fine for Raspbmc, isn't it? All my media will be streamed, the card will just be for the OS and the storage of the fan art etc for my movies.

Anyone had dispatch from RS? If so what was your order number?

Pretty pee'd off that people ordering from Farnell only a week ago are getting theirs shipped now.

RS are sodding useless.

I'm thinking of ordering one of these.

Does anyone know if you can use Lovefilm to watch movies on it? It requires Microsoft Silverlight and I seen an 'open source' version called 'moon light' for Linux which is basically Silverlight for Linux :p.

Reason I'm asking is because we have a year free of Lovefilm with our broadband package and for £30 this thing would be a huge money saver

Moonlight has no DRM so it won't work.

Ohh right, Fair enough, I just googled it and it seems they are trying to get Microsofts help with it or something, Think I'll still order one just for a media centre / internet browsing then :)
