7870 holding up really well!!
Yeah, As a 1080P GPU its a good balance of performance vs price.
Anything more powerful is excessive for 1080P IMHO
Even at 120hz, a single 7970 can be asking a bit much if you want max eye candy, for example look at my OC'd BF3 scores, I can nearly double those frame rates by dropping a little AA, HBAO and the odd non-essential setting.
But yes, I am in agreement that at 1080p 60hz a 7870 holds up very very well. Especially considering its essentially a 28nm version of the Caymen based 6970. That die shrink has unleashed so much potential, it boggles the mind to think what the 8870 will do...

Good point on the 120Hz.
Thats interesting, i did not know that, is that just the 7870?
Couple of graphs.
Sleeping dogs wouldn't load the benchmark...
I couldn't get Civi5 to work either.
BF3 was benched on 64p Alborz Mountains and Bandar Desert. Ultra presets with 90FOV (Edit: 10min FRAPS bench)
Crysis 2 was benched using "Adrenaline" and seems to be capped at 100fps. So i'll have to bench that one again using the normal game.
Batman was without PhysiX.
Just an idea
Perhaps there could be links to any benchmarks/tools used on this thread on the front page.
I have got the AvP benchmark but I am having a bit of a problem finding the tool mentioned above that people are using with it.
From what I understand with AMD the x9xx cards get a die shrink and come out as the new x8xx cards with better yields (I may be completely wrong just my understanding) which gives slightly better clock for clock performance along with higher out of box clocks. x9xx is a new chip every time.
If you look and anandtech's bench comparison between the 5850-70/6850-70 along with the 6950-70/7850-70 you won't see much performance difference.
Edit: thanks for the results tonester, I'll get updating shortly
Don't know, the 6970 is tracking the 7870 by 0 to -10% at times, other times the 6970 just gets utterly mullured by it, http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/509?vs=548
I know the 5### series is the same arch as the 4### series, and the 6### series is a slightly altered 5### series.
I always thought the 7### series, from the 7750 right up to the 7970 was a significantly different arch, and all the same. Well, when i say significantly it shares a lot in common with Cayman, but with some major tweaks, like uncoupling the ROP's from the L2 and IMC to make that whole thing more efficient.
From what the slides say 7### to 8### series is like the 4### series to 5### series, pretty much identical to eachother, but with further tweaks and optimisation, better power consumption, a small bump in clock for clock performance and some more cores.
The lowest estimates have it at +20%, the highest at +40%.
I think it's +25%, bringing the 8870 to the performance to where mine is at now (overclocked) and a little more, whats that? close to a stock 7970?
I'm putting all that together from stuff reading over the years, which of-course could be way out...
Anyway. i'm on Steam downloading a Just Cause 2 Demo as i type this.
Another bench coming up later
Done a few runs on bf3 as per the video on here and not sure why im getting my max fps so high , starting the fraps benchmark as the apc door opens and you get out

A strange one, even your averages seem a tad too high, ultra pre-set or ultra-custom?
