His 4 wins were pretty fortunate TBF retirements in Aus and DC taking Mika out at Austria? and 2 given to him on a plate. Sure he was normally in the points but it was not like today's sport and there was very little challenge to Ferrari and McLaren.

I'm not suggesting he was a contender on his own, just that he was there to pick up the pieces after the mistakes of others (ie consistency). That applied to Frentzen to an extent as well. Still, Irvine had some good runs in the Jaguar when it was a shoddily run outfit.

mm interesting

Marussia President Graeme Lowdon has confirmed that discussions with rivals Caterham regarding a merge of the two teams were held over the winter.

Today’s issue of The Times claims that ‘Talks between the Marussia and Caterham teams started over the winter as they tried to find common ground so that they could guarantee survival. But the talks foundered and the two teams are now in a dogfight for tens of millions of pounds in prize money’.

“I have everything prepared here for them to sign. It is not a problem. But they have not been happy and they almost merged with Caterham, so that made me wondering what was happening,” Ecclestone told the newspaper.

Lowdon told Sky Sports News in Malaysia that “I can confirm that discussions took place. I wasn’t involved in them and as I understand it, the conclusion was unacceptable to our shareholders. So nothing happened.”

Marussia has yet to confirm they have reached a commercial agreement with Ecclestone, while the F1 supremo commented last year that he’d prefer a ten team grid.

Pacific and Team Lotus in the 90's? (Before my time, I'm just trying to remember things I have read).

If the FIA had chosen decent teams in the first place we wouldn't have this problem.

Yep. They chose political allies for a fight against the big teams that never happened, and then once they no longer needed their loyalty they turned against them.

I can't imagine it fitted with the McLaren image. Button has some tattoos as well.

Although I can definitely remember Hamilton in McLaren tshirts and can't remember the tattoo, so maybe its new?

Yeah, he got it done after one of the testing sessions, think it was on his twitter

I think that Kimi is now being told to talk as little as possible. I can't believe that anybody (unless mentally ill) wants to talk as little as he does.

I mean, we are now reaching the point where he is answering a question with a facial expression.
