Then he can't lift it that's a half arsed posers ROM

Yeah I agree, I told him to stop doing ego squats months ago. It's annoying because I'm not as strong and I like to go lower, plus I'm really tall so it's kind of harder with the big ROM.
But he always brags on the way home about his progression and makes out like I've been lifting the same weight for six months but I haven't.

Funny thing is when we first started gym he NEVER wanted to do legs, he use to complain at me when it was leg day. Tell me nobody sees them it doesn't matter, it's too tiring. Now all he goes on about is legs and if you haven't got massive legs he doesn't want to know, legs are the real test of strength, I can squat more weight than every guy in this gym etc.

So I think this is why he keeps adding 20kg on every week.

Of anyones touching anyone while lifting, punch them in the face, heyll break someone doing that.

100% fuarrrrmothering serious.

He did it to me, came up behind and placed his hands on my back, just lightly and asked me to do the same when he was squatting. I'm not a fan of it myself I just want a spotter for that last rep if I don't make it.

Is he not going below parallel because he wants to shift more weight or because of a limited range of motion? Going ATG despite not having the mobility to safely do so is asking for hurt.

He can go ATG no problem. He just loves to add weight on.

That isn't that strong bro

 Is this a random guy or someone you know? Must have a lot of strength pound for pound as I thought his legs would be even bigger.

Cheers ice, there was me mirin my 125kg x8 and 130kg 8/8 today :(

Eight sets, nice we only do four, should I start doing eight or not?

Beastly, it's just a shame he stopped right before hypertrophy kicked in.

LOL

So your squatting 140kg for 10 reps? What are your maxes like?

Yeah that's what I did today, they sucked though didn't even reach parallel (this was the first time I tried it just to test). I haven't done any one rep maxes yet, should I?

But is that including the weight of the bar or not Nate? And has he been practicing the push off on leg press? Might help give him some natural strapping.

Haha yeah I've decided to include the bar weight, like you say it doesn't lift itself. I talked to another guy today and asked him if he was including bar weight and he said no, so I'm like IT DOESN'T LIFT ITSELF every time now, gonna turn this gym around ;)

What's push off leg press? We do leg press right after squats, he does 250kg 12 reps.

Was that Nate squatting or UE? It's tough to tell sometimes.

LOL, :(

Just lightly touching your back while you squat... sounds pretty gay. Did he at any point exclaim "No homo"?

Ignore my leg press comment, I'm just being a retard.

The man in that video is our tame powerlifter. Some say he frolics naked through the Oxfordshire countryside, and that he knows every word of the script to Only Fools and Horses... all we know is, he's called icecold.

Just no. Exactly how is that going to help if you bail? Unless he has a magnet in his hand and your spine is metal.

The guy is pretty random to be fair.

Ah that's icecold, awesome thought it was someone on here. He's pretty damn ripped.

Yeah I have no idea why he does it I think he likes to feel his back or something. He was telling me I should have the bar higher when squatting but I like it almost sliding off my back, I try it though because he's older and big so I can't say NO you're wrong lol.

People in this gym are weird. There is two guys who squat together, they wear the exact same shorts and vests, same haircuts everything. They stand around the rack for about 30 minutes doing stretches then lift really really light weight but they are pretty ripped.

Another guy (in his late 30s) wears these massive thick glasses and bandanna, does roundhouse kicks three times then goes straight into one rep, then roundhouse kicks again three times into another rep, sometimes half a rep. We call him one repper. He's cool though I like him, I call him Ryo and I hope he finds the man that killed his father.

It's a good gym though. It's an old bread factory. Three rooms.

Downstairs
Machines, got quite a lot this is where the lat pull down is and leg curl, calve press machine are.

Downstairs 2
This is the free weight room, got a few 50kg plates and lots of 25kg. Three benches, squat rack, seated cable row, push press, bench press, incline bench, decline bench, two leg press machines, three racks of free weights on the walls and some more stuff.

Upstairs,
Ugh can't even walk upstairs after leg day. This is cardio machines and ab workouts. Got back extension, two pull bars, string machine, those weird chicken wing shoulder machines ect.

Upstairs 2
Just a boxing room with punch bags and running machines / changing rooms and shower which is only 20p to use!.

It's like the oldschool gyms from the pumping iron video. Even got some weights from 1970 from Golds gym. Nothing fancy about it which I like, just painted brick walls, super high ceiling with wooden beams, big factory windows, steel stairs. Never have to wait to use anything too. The owner let's us blast our mp3 players too, was working out to Hans Zimmer - Imagine the Fire. I felt like Bane in TDKR and was in a bad mood were I want to kill everyone, damn that was a good session.

Then we walk out and get a shake for £1 and sit down and eat some food inside at the counter. Can't complain for £5 a week! And that's no contract I don't know how he isn't losing money. He just had to pay £800 on the electric bill that week. :D

I was down in Portsmouth with my girlfriend this year and went to a really posh gym in Surrey. I hated it so much. Weight room was clean as a whistle, fully padded dumb bells and saftey squat racks. Low ass ceiling, millions of running machines with a 32" HDTV in front of each! Lots of people in spandix, with 1000000% perfect form, like they daren't even push themselves a little. I really hated the atmosphere, it had quite a big weight room but it was way too higher end for me. I actually like to hear people grunting and dropping iron. This place had no soul.

Sorry got on a typing spree there.

A FEW THINGS

Soon brah
Some guy off the internet, does lots of vids, Scott Herman I think he's called, look him up ;).
FFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

All or some of that may or may not be true.
The guy in that video doesn't even go ATG, ignore him.
Kernt
The guy is pretty random to be fair.
*handsome.

Yeah, that's me from the last bro down. I don't know about ripped, that's the fattest I've been all year, but thanks also :). Without trying to sound much like an arrogant douche, yes, pound for pound my squat is pretty good (230kg @85kg). However, it's still 30+kg off what I expect to be lifted in my old weight class (83kg) at nationals this year if the best guy is at his best, and ALL of those squats will be below parallel. Just saying this for perspective, your mate is no where near as strong as he thinks he is. Having hands on the entire time is a joke too, there is absolutely no need to be so intimate with your spotter.

For the sake of your training, you should always be squatting to proper depth. I really don't understand people who say stuff like "my squats where higher today because it was heavy". Just no. Every single rep goes to parallel, or it ceases to be a squat. For reference, the reps in that video are higher than I normally go in training as that set was just for fun.

A FEW THINGS

I normally agree with most of what you say except for this. The lifter/spotter partnership is a sacred one, it involves a lot of trust and the ability to stay with someone, and help them through the darkest of times. A touch, a caress, a reassuring hand on the back; this is the Spotter's way of saying "hey handsome. Don't worry about that big nasty weight, I'm here with you. Ill wrap my arms around you if needs be, or help with my fingers that way you normally like. You're not alone".

icecold, you need to open your heart.

What is this ****?

What is wrong with people these days? Why does something that is basically identical to the bars that you used to get in sports halls in school suddenly an advanced piece of kit?

In fact I'm just jealous that it isn't me making money off something like that :(

Soon you will feel the warmth of my breath on your neck as I whisper gentle sweet nothings into your ear.

"Hey man,you lookin' real nice. Imma split you down the middle like a dry piece of fire wood."

Can we put the past behind us and start anew? It's not like just because I am not updating my log any more, I am not in the gym, working hard, and will invariably make mistakes.

Rather than ridicule it would be nice to get some answers. Or at least some discussion.

---

Something that is causing me some bother is the base of my thumb. I noticed a few weeks ago the day after doing dips that I had a bruise right on the base of the thumb where the joint is.

Eventually it healed and I forgot about it. However on Monday I felt it again whilst dipping, and then on Thursday on the bench, on my 3rd set it started bothering me and I lost power (imaging having a stone in your shoe, it's hard to walk)

Some one in the gym said something about a saddle joint and the muscle in the thumb not being strong or something...

I’m hoping it doesn’t become a problem as it would be a hindrance.

The fact that I can now bench 50kg to my chest 5x5 is a massive progress marker for me, my previous max for ages was only 42.5kg...

---

On the topic of diet, I am probably eating around 2200 calories at the moment and my weight is going up. I've gained about 1kg in about 2 weeks.

IS this adequate or should I be eating more? I’m a bit confused because if my weight is going up surely Im in a surplus, or is it not simply enough to be in a small surplus, you need to have a certain % surplus to get the most out of your time and efforts?

My freind tells me I should be eating about 2600 calories for my weight, but I just see that as extra fat gain.

My lifts are going up so I guess that’s all that matters?

quick comp write up:

100kg log for reps: 5 reps, joint 2nd
Windy as hell this morning, wind coming off the thames into my back. As soon as the log left my chest you could feel the wind take it.
3 one motions which were quick enough to not be affected by the wind but I wasnt gonna get any more than that so had to try and push press.

100kg farmers walk 20 metres: 4th I think
turns out these were 115kg each hand, not 100kg. When I picked them up before comp started I said "these feel more like 110-115" funny when i was told they were 115kg. Though they were used the year before and were stated as 120kg. So no idea!
Quite quick, no drops but when putting them down at end my knees screamed at me, I was in agony :(
wife wanted me to drop out from the pain on my face.

MTFU Mark. Simple.

Deadlift 220kg for reps: 8. Joint 2nd
Horrible, knees were killing me and bending them was a problem meaning a higher arse starting point than i would like. Thin mat on grass underfoot, also not nice lol.
9 reps won, I wanted 10 so not happy that I only got 8.

Yoke 260kg 20 metres: 20 secs. 4th.
My worst event, with seriously bad knees I wasn't looking forward to this. Well, those non 100kg farmers were used as base for yoke, so this could have been 260/290/or possibly even 300. Who knows?! I hurt after this. Hard.

Arm over arm 4x4 pull 20 metres ish: 17secs, 2nd.
car wasnt heavy enough so they stuck 550kg more of people in there. Quality.
slight downhill then uphill for last 8m or so. Big pull to start would get it rolling (harder the pull the more it rolled) then just need to wind in the rope until near the hill.
I got to the hill quick and the commentator commented that this was going to be fast. Pulled hard a few times and 17 secs was called out.

With no event wins I know I wasn't winning, I was thinking 3rd at best but likely 4th.
Got down to 5th place and I was thinking 2 people either side of me had 1st/2nd then me 3rd.
5th got called and I was shocked, then 4th. At this point I knew I had 2nd place.

Boom :D

You've had **** tonnes of advice already. If you really think you require more then I'd put you down as an attention whore, or a really poor troll. Further to that, if any members were to give you even more advice than you have aready received, I think they should be well inclined to start charging you for the time!

Stop talking carp and lift ffs!!
