*** Nexus 5 THE Official Thread ***

GOTO developers options and enable it there.

On another note do most people use screen protectors in there nexus 5?

Just put on my case and applied the screen protector. It's okay I guess but sometimes the corners bubble up.

My wife's s4 hasn't had a protector on in 6 months and it has no scratches at all and this uses gorilla glass 3 too so I guess it should be okay?

Yeah had to enable developer options.

Just been having a read about it, some say that certain apps don't work with it so I will leave it for the time being.

A case is sensible.

A screen protector is an insult to a phone.

I had a screen protector on my last Nexus 5 but the replacement device I'm rocking it without one but in a Diztronic case, the smooth feeling of the glass is just so nice compared to cheap plastic films.

I keep mine in a pouch too when it's in my pocket so very little chance of damaging the glass.

If you love the phone Nexus I may have to give another one a go! :o:(

hehe, it is a great device and the only other device that I would consider atm is the moto x.

One thing which google have nailed is the auto brightness, it has been spot on for me so far, nexus 7 2013 is too dim in all conditions where as the one s auto brightness was too bright in all conditions, n5 perfect so far.

Finding the signal weaker on this phone so far for both wifi and mobile signal and that is compared to my one s which was regarded for having poor signal strength.....

I definitely can't go any bigger than the nexus 5 either, shame all these companies think bigger is the way forward :(

BTW tried the Acdisplay app out, looks nice but very little to choose from for options so gone back to dynamic (which also allows me to reduce the screen brightness to help limit battery drain)

Nexus, you can try an app called 'lux dash' for your N7. It's a user definable auto brightness app and I find it perfect. Got some nice features and works great. You might need to get a hang of the settings by looking on YouTube.

Edit - it let's you dim the brightness below 0% too which I find handy.

How do I do that? :o :p

Go into Settings, About Phone and where it says Android version, tap on it four or five times to enable Developer Options. Go into those and select runtime as ART.

I'm not too sure if I've noticed any differences, but a lot of people say it's worth doing so why not!

Edit: Oh I just refreshed the thread from last night and I'm guessing it's already been answered :p

Yeah did that yesterday but going to leave it for the time being as some have experienced problems with certain apps not working.

Does seem like performance and battery life is better though.....

edit:

Yup! :p

Hopefully as so far, it is pretty damn terrible compared to my one s.....

Battery life is suffering atm as well because of it, still pretty decent but compared to my 1s it is pretty poor. Will post battery screens once I hit 15/20%, atm got 43% left with 1d1h18m and on screen time of 2h39m

Going to be getting a 3 SIM next week anyway so hopefully reception will be better with it....

Taken a few quick "point and shoot" photos and videos today and the camera seems nice "overall", HDR+ is definitely better than no HDR+ and is MUCH better than the one S HDR mode.

Some examples below, as said these were just point and shoot, no messing with focus points, exposure, taking more than one shot etc. so the photos could have been better....

To see the bigger versions, remove the "h" before ".jpg"

some quick point and shoot comparisons to my one s, one S is on top and N5 is on the bottom.

Low light (energy saving bulbs) one s VS N5 HDR+ so photos aren't great:

OIS definitely helps with low light shots.

Will post some fancy looking shots over the next week from the n5 and this time, mess with focus point, manual exposure etc.

Video recording is impressive, good sound, accurate colours and very smooth, auto focus is a bit slow at times. Just need slow motion recording now :p

Despite there being less features/options to choose from, I am liking the stock camera app more than the htc camera app, cleaner & quicker.

The new stock camera app is really nice, UI is so much better, thing is super simple and easy and this is what 99% of users want/need. When you compare it to other camera apps that can be overwhelming at times e.g. Samsung with there wall of modes and settings, and Sony has this too the stock apps is just comfy and easy.

I like the camera app on the M8, it has a lot of really nice manual controls similar to the Nokia camera on WP.

HDR+ is the bomb! I shoot in it 24/7 because it looks so much better than normal mode, especially in low light.

Have you heard the video hiss bug in your videos? I assume all n5 have that prob and am still hoping google can patch it.

Can you shoot these two vids.

1 - a completely quiet room

2 - tv on in the background but not shooting directly at tv

These two instances produce the video hiss the most for me. The quieter the room the worse the hiss.
