Formula E 2014/2015 season

Just watched it and I enjoyed it, kinda reminds me of the earlier years of F1: Tracks with zero run off, non-existant safety, and some slightly dodgy drivers in the line up.

The cars are slow atm but we get to watch the progression of tech on them and I imagine some of them will be quite dramatic.

But the technology isn't open. The FIA are not going to kill the series by allowing 1 team to arrive with a technology that blows everyone away. The problem is, in the few years it will take to get the technology to a point where its interesting to watch, the series could be dead.

I think stretching the current technology at this stage will be it's downfall. Single car 25 minute races with a larger battery would be a better format. Do 2 races too. Trying to make it a sprint race but an endurance race at the same time has ruined it. Which is a shame, it really is.

There is no limit of motor size, motor power, battery size, battery density, battery capacity or type of controller next year - subject to meeting the maximum weight of the car and certain battery safety specifications. Next year is free reign, then FIA said they'll look at harmonising the rules around the peak performance combination. Couple of teams (e.dams renault is one) state they could be looking at 30% increase in capacity on batteries for the same size solely by bringing the batteries up to current spec. One team (forget which) reckon they could get to lap 23 out of 25 in quali trim before neediing to swap cars next year.

I can't believe people are writing off a brand new series after the first race - dinosaurs :p

Yep, as long as fia aren't stupid and restrict technology, it will be 'Ike the golden age of f1, where times tumbled every year. As long as they learn from this season redesign tracks a bit, tweak cameras etc, and don't restrict rules to much, I will be very happy.

Also is there a way TI view post number, so I can use a jumps to link, rather than what I have in OP, that opens up the post in a new tab. I know I need to use http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=18623428#postXXXXXXXX

but I don't see any way to find what the xxxxxxx number is.

See the #xxx in the top right corner of the post.

The batteries are made by Williams and the same for all teams. Are the rules for next year going to allow individual teams to run their own things, or is about being open to allow the manufacturers of each component to continually upgrade? I doubt very much most of the teams have the ability to develop their own kit.

All the teams getting the same yearly updated and advances in technology =

Teams being allowed to run their own kit, creating a 2 tier formula based on funds and "who you know" =

Err....:p

That just opens up a new tab with the single post, I want it to jumps to a certain post, like the go to first unread post does, which uses the for at I posted. but you need to know the 8 number post ID, which I see no way of finding atm.

Quote the post and you'll get the long number. For example, your post above is 26898907.

For example

Edit: Ok scratch that, it doesn't seem to work.

Edit 2: Ah here we go:

Either.

It's up to them, develop thier own or buy someone elses.

Next year is a development year using data collected from this year - but teams must release thier findings and make the technology available to all, then it's harmonisation and stabilisation the year after. With such new technology - you can't stifle development, something the FIA recognises (thankfully).

So you can develop your own kit, but have to sell it to anyone who wants it?

Is there standard connectivity (I.e. motors from any supplier must connect to batteries from any other supplier), and a restricted price for parts? What's to stop someone making a super battery that has proprietary connectivity with their own motors, and its available to anyone who wants it, but cost 1 billion dollars! :p.

It's no problem, because you'll have the design so just get someone else to make it for less :-)

I won't be getting up live for it, but something to instantly turn on once awake.

It's a shame that it has been so long since the first race. I think it may lose a lot of the momentum it gained after the first race and due to pre-race marketing. Almost seems lost, particularly at 6am...

Opening yeah, next year is the real first year,
