BT TV with DSL-AC68U?

My DSL-AC68U is running nicely with BT Infinity 2 and the YouView box - except that none of the extra/internet channels work (#406+). Freeview channels work perfectly.

BT say those channels will only work with the HH5 (which I think is funny, because my HH5 was useless in every way).

Anyone have experience of this?

Yeah. On mine when I forced fastpath for 24 hours I had no spikes whatsoever, virtually identical results to the HG612. I think ASUS may have resolved the problem. I'm back on DLM's settings for now which will test if FEC errors go abnormally high, so far it's remaining consistent and normal.

A slight nervousness with the latest stats: The CRC down count was certainly ahead of 20 per hour when I had turned on G.Inp and G.Vector. However, it now stands at 75 an hour. It seems to be accelerating.

Not unless you lose connection. If you do not for a week or so you could probably drop the SNR Margin a bit to gain some more bandwidth.

i have 25 crc down errors and 717 up errors

any idea how i can reduce these? or is it acceptable

I've read of some people mentioning on other forums that you should avoid this unit on longer lines due to the mediatek chip set. Does this even apply to VDSL as I would have thought most long lines would be at least halved with sticking in a cab along the way. What would be deemed a long line anyway?

I think that's a bit of old news, considering that the problems now appear to be resolved with ESNP. MediaTek has a reputation of being unstable on long lines but there's no sufficient proof yet to say that it's unstable on this particular chipset model (other than before ESNP was implemented).

OK. Just thought I should find out if there was any truth in the information people were dishing out. So I gather Asus recommends the currently released firmware and if issues remain then use the beta that was issued with the ESNP?

Yes. If you're experiencing stability problems or abnormal rises in the FEC errors then you should try the latest beta on this forum thread (ESNP) and set ESNP to stable on the DSL settings page. It's solved all my stability problems here, including the FEC error count which no longer rockets upwards :).

Thats more than acceptable that is in fact very good even the 717 up errors based on 2 days is less that 15 per hour average. Of course this is assuming the stats on this new firmware are accurate.

Id say that is pretty much hearsay rather than evidence. Also you can in theory be on a longer line with vdsl than you were on adsl.

Example you live really close to the exchange and the old adsl cabinet was almost outside your house but the new fibre cabinet is further up or down the road (say on the opposite side of the road or junction to the old cabinet). The copper loop involved could be longer (it would depend on the distance between old and new cabinet).

OR to visualise it easier...

old adsl setup...
telephone exchange -- adsl/old cabinet -- house

New vdsl setup...
telephone exchange +++ vdsl/new cabinet ----- house

Where "-" equals copper and "+" equals fibre and each "+" and each "-" equals 50 Metres of copper and fibre respectively.

In the above, with the old adsl set up you would technically have less copper in your line. (200 Metres) compared to the vdsl setup (250 Metres).

This would not be very common i grant but entirely possible. I can think of a road not that far from me near the exchange something very similar.

Can you when/if interleaving gets removed with this new firmware check to see how it performs on fastpath over a 72 hour period. Or force fastpath again after a few days if it does not put you back on it.

I have a theory on what they may had done to keep the errors down, im hoping im wrong, because if im right the errors are only going to remain low for around 24-48 hours before they rise again. (my theory... they have altered tone allocation/bit loading to favour a specific frequency range, again will mask issues until after 48 ish hours when it can no longer allocate properly, bit load to those frequencies in the manner they have altered).

Linksys done something similar with a device a few years back, ultimately they introduced a "v2" or "B" model in the end when savy users still moaned lol I hope im wrong though. This would also explain now why people are seeing higher CRC and FEC in general on the up rather than down stream, you can actually have higher up errors but not commonly.

This theory would explain things. For most people before it was higher FEC/CRC on the downstream (which despite the prior silly figures in the millions is typically the common scenario for FEC and CRC IE more on downstream) seems funny now its the up stream, i doubt that many lines have issues with WORSE/HIGHER upstream errors rather than downstream.... Im watching with interest. I hope Asus have not tried to be clever and failed! I (AGAIN) really hope im wrong cos im ready to pull the trigger and buy one again, but if they have pulled a bodge rather than real fix on it then ill be going Billion or TP-Link.

I'll give it a week from now, if DLM for some reason doesn't perform a positive change in that time then I might force fastpath. However, with the ECI G.INP rollout supposedly coming up in a few days (which will probably take a few months), I'm reluctant to force fastpath incase someone at the DCoE notices this and doesn't like what they see (when G.INP is applied to the connection).

However, a fair test is to leave it connected for a week on interleaved. If FEC starts to rise suddenly and rapidly then it should indicate what you believe ASUS may have done. I hope however it doesn't happen.

I've further tweaked my transmit power and have now set target stability to 6dB. However, it appears with a high INP and delay that the modem won't sync much beyond a certain sync rate/SNRM even though the upper limit is actually 67Mbps.

Not sure, it is new VDSL since XMAS, how do I tell which it is?

All I know is I was getting over 100~200 CRC Up/Down errors per day and I went on Holiday, when I came back I noticed the line had reset on Friday morning and no more CRC since then.

my speed is the same and ping rate is the same around 17ms.

Each photo has a label to say which model it is. The ECI 128 is actually green, not black (as shown in the picture on that website), but it's unique as the design is slightly different to the Huawei 128 (e.g. ECI 128 has a large ventilation grill on the front door where Huawei 128 has a small ventilation grill on the door).
