Acer XB270HU - Worlds First IPS, 1440p, 144hz, Gsync

IPS panels, they all have backlight bleed, that is just a part of life with IPS. VA/TN give better blacks.

IPS suffer IPS glow and backlight bleed, but some have extreme levels of backlight bleed, but an IPS will never give perfect blacks, certainly not in my years of using them.

Just like TV's, Plasma was always the choice for deep blacks at the cost of image sharpness. It is only very recently TV's have improved but still can't compete with a Plasma for blacks.

Different panel technologies have their strengths and weaknesses, unfortunately there is no perfect panel on the market. :(

No they don't. Disappointing to hear you say that gibster. Ips glow and backlight bleed are two very different things too. My dell 29 inch widescreen IPS has no backlight bleed whatsoever. Zero. And also has very minimal ips glow. This is how all monitors should be. It's pathetic how it's going these days with monitors, and it is not acceptable for customers.

Fact is though now whether you like it or not, the panels are clearly manufactured in such a way where there is bleed. If you don't like it, simply don't buy one, because I've not seen perfect blacks on an IPS panel since my DELL 3006WFP.

But most don't have anything excessive and when in use tends to go un-noticed, sometimes we do see monitors however that look like they are being powered by the sun itself, which we treat as faulty.

Gibbo, what do you think of my 29um65? This is at 0% brightness

It was fine when I got it back in July but for some reason over the last week it has got worse particularly the bottom left corner.

Lots of them out there. Some are online too.

and they are all useless in my opinion

Now that's what I wish mine looked like.

Return yours now under the 14 day rule, its got dead/stuck pixels, its got bad backlight bleed (Acer say greater than 10mm from edge is acceptable for return) go get a RMA from OCUK and return it to OCUK. If you leave it till after 14 days you will have to deal with Acer and that is not a good thing. You have spent £600+ on a product that its not acceptable. Any other product for that money with issues you would return it so do so with this.
My advice.

Got mine set up now. I can't see any bleed at all, but I do have a line of 3/4 dead pixels around 300 from the top and 200 from the left edge (looking at the picture now, right where the mouse is :). No light coming off them, but I thought it was just a (tiny) bit of dirt to begin with. I doubt it will be a problem so I think I am happy. This is on a black screen with 50% brightness set.

Yeah going to, thanks man, it's a whole months pay for me so I can't and won't accept something that not at least reasonable, my Asus isn't perfect, but it's acceptable, this is a lot more expensive than that monitor was so its going back. What's the best way to post it?

1st there was one dead pixel which i could probably live with but now another has appeared :( Will try some software all night to see if that fixes it but if not Time to say good bye to my monitor. On the plus side very impressed with IPS at 144hz. The motion clarity is great. G sync is good but i can still notice slight stutter in big FPS jumps say from 130 to 80 but generally much smoother and will look to include in my next monitor. Hurry up Asus and release some thing similar with G sync.

For big things I use UPS or RM Parcelforce 48hr and drop them off at the depot.

As I said, if you find even 1 dead pixel you will be almost sure to get more in the future.

So I just received the monitor and it's great however on the info menu it states the max refresh rate is 60Hz? Any ideas?

Probably the cable you are using, you gotta use Display Port or dual link DVI.

Keep in mind the difference between a STUCK and DEAD pixel...

Dead pixels don't produce light... stuck pixels will show some light, and can display the incorrect light level or just stuck as red, blue or green. If dead, I don't think there's anything that can be done so best to just RMA, and as mentioned if you have one dead one, it probably won't be the last. But if you have any stuck pixels, they can be 'massaged' and fixed. Sometimes a bump in transit can cause these, so it's not necessarily the death knell for a monitor.

Desktop refresh will default to 60. Right click, Screen Resolution, advanced settings, monitor - pick 120hz

IIncidentally I've closed y curtains and sat in a as-dark-as-possible environemnt and I have got some bleed in the borttom right, but I don't think I will be in those environments very often. Coming from the HP LP2475W I understand the IPs glow and this isn't a deal breaker for me. One thing I will say is that OCuk need to tell Acer to STOP putting those huge stand-up stickers on the top left of their monitors, because whoever is doing it is pressing them on so hard it is causing elevated levels of bleed from that edge!

got it set up and hugely impressed. new to gsync and also anything over 60hz :D

sorry to keep asking but any guides on what to have set up for drivers etc so everything works as intended?

Just got my monitor hooked up. The monitor features are amazing, colours, contrast, resolution is sublime and the high refresh rates and gsync are surreal, especially having just come form an old 1080p 60hz IPS. Sadly though, not all is well. :(

Firstly there's two stuck pixels. I've not tried to unstick them yet, but will be trying one those programs tonight to see if it makes any difference. This is not a massive issue and I'm confident that this can be resolved.

Secondly, and the bigger problem by far, is the backlight bleed which seems to be excessive and has actually gotten worse after using the screen for a while. Below are some pictures:

This is with brightness at 50%, but I can still see it when going lower and even with my room lighting switched on.

Really wished this wouldn't be an issue but I watch a lot of movies and this would irk me to no end. Going to see if the bleed somehow lessens over night, but I doubt it. As much as I am impressed by the rest of the monitor, I can't justify spending almost £700 on something with what I consider a major fault.

Very similar to mine, sucks don't it? :(

As the night is drawing in I am seeing more bleed creeping in, much in the same pattern as above. I'm seeing if I can wiggle the front faace at all but it has no give. Troubling, and clearly the hand picked reviewer models were either not properly tested, or were pick your own cherries.
