AMD Radeon R9 295X2 Owners Thread

They stopped the card throttling, which was my issue.

They got temps down a few degrees which was enough to stop it hitting 74°C

I think the GPU2 ended up running at about 71°C. If you aren't having issue in the first place I wouldn't really bother.

I can't even remember if the rad fan spins up and down. I thought it ran at a constant speed?

Yep i don't think i will bother actually, and you're right about the fan speed - just tested it.

its not vrms thats causing the downclocking on r9295x2 with gta5.

i have a full water block on there and when i put my hand under the card its just warm where the vrms are.

its not vrms thats cauings downclocking.

does not happen in ultra firestrike and it sure as hell is more demanding that gta5....
does not happen in another game that i am playing at the moment called the crew maxed out....

only GTA5 its deffo a bug somewhere causing the issue.

i would be more inclined to believe that the issue is VRAM framebuffer running out and having to buffer than VRMs over heating when it comes to my system.

--------------------------

Max temps in GTA5 for me is 58c
heat from vrms is warm does not even burn me i can hold my hand there indefinitely.

bug somewhere.... or framebuffer issue i would put 99% faith in that statement.

Yes I've already raised the issue internally, thanks Virus. I find it seems to be caused by getting close to, or exceeding the video memory limit within GTA V. It can be fixed by restarting the game or lowering AA a tad i find. Sometimes playing with image quality settings in game can cause it, as can turning Vsync on or off. The fix is just to pick the settings you want and restart the game and should be good.

thanks, i hope it gets fixed in a patch, cause the limit they imposed should be fine as long as you dont go over it and stay under it and dont override it...
cause at the minute when it happens all the time it causes terrible slow mo and stuttering effects when the clocks jump around...

Hi all, My first post having recently invested in 2x295x2 for my gaming pleasure, I have learnt a lot but the main thing is that you can't just unbox install and play, these things need some setting up and then each game has to be tweaked to work both in the game settings and CCC. Just because a game benchmarks poorly ie GTA5 doesn't mean the graphics card(s) are rubbish, it means the game isn't optimised to work properly and needs setting up or patching. After much fiddling around with Crysis 3 I am now playing with everything maxed at around 80fps in 4k which is beautiful.
Conversely Project Cars is ok at around 60fps in 4k but turn on the rain or darkness and this drops to round 30fps, it's playable but annoying. Having invested a lot of money I refuse to to play at anything other than 4k with max settings. All four cores are running at no more than 60% capacity so it's in the coding somewhere. Does anyone know of a solution?
Just to make things more difficult for myself have decided to buy an Oculus Rift DK2 to play with so see how I go with that.

Welcome dude. I understand and feel your pain. Hopefully AMDMatt will be able to assist you :)

On the plus side it is more 'out of the box playable' than any previous crossfire setup. I haven't had to do much playing around with it at all - but they do need to optimise the drivers, surely GTAV shouldn't be stuttering as much for me as it does currently given the high fps seen? AMD produce some fantastic hardware, but they rarely seem to unlock its potential through their driver releases.

It will be interesting to see how this gets on with the Witcher 3.

I wish there was a way to increase the 74C cap slightly.

Guys have you found out whats the "max safe" voltage for the card ?
Afterburner allows you to put + 100mV which is nothing rly, but with Sapphire Trixx you can go even higher. Anyone ?
This question is relevant for custom water-cooled cards.
My temps are ~40C-41C MAX in furmark for both cores.

Matt ? What do u think ?
Also any idea why afterburner allows only +100mV and Trixx allows more ?

Overvolting gave me no overclocking gains, on the other hand your temps are extremely low. I also use custom waterblock and my temps are nowhere near that.

Do you mind sharing which waterblock you use and how many rads?

Must be at least 10 radiators for temps like that :p

Increased voltages gave seriously diminishing returns for me. Didn't even get close to any review overclocks that I read. Performs well without them though :)

Afterburner limits you to +100mv but Sapphire Trixx allows more. As to why this is, you'd need to ask the software developers who produce those overclocking tools.

It's possible to tweak Afterburner to give you more than +100mv, but I'm afraid you'll need to find out how to do that. A google search should point you in the right direction, though. :)

If using stock cooling on the 295x2 you get the best mileage by undervolting and upping the memory clock speed to 1500-1625Mhz. If you get a good sample you'll do 1625Mhz on the memory whilst undervolted by -0.050v/-0.075v.

My current 295x2 is stable at 1625Mhz @-0.075v and may even go lower on the voltage. :)

Wow, that is beautiful.

Is it okay if i share some of your pictures on the AMD UK social channels? I know our followers will love your rig! :)

Not really once you have enough rads you won't get lower temps by adding more.

The setup below is only marginally better at cooling my 290Xs than using 3 x 480mm rads in my case.

Ahhhh good old Kaap going nuts again :P why am i not surprised that you have tried something so crazy as that? I want to live through you !!
