It can and does get expensive, it cost me around £900 to water cool my whole setup when I had both cards under water, fittings were the most expensive part, some were almost £12 a fitting!

That's what I'm afraid of... I'll stick with air for the time being - I get reasonable temps!
I would definitely recommend people put these under a waterblock and do some BIOS modding to get rid of all the clockspeed fluctuations etc, this is what I have so far...
It clocks so well the line has turned yellow.
I too am able to get my MSI 980 over 1500. Why is 1500 the hard coded limit in the graph for both msi afterburner end evga precision ?!

If you're starting from scratch yeah it'll be expensive about £350-400 I'd say including CPU+GPU blocks, well worth it though. I already had most of the parts from before.
Or go AIO, much cheaper.

Just to let you know - i got mine today, the backplate is plain space grey colour.
I just use £1.20 1/2" barbs with 7/16" ID tubing, if you dip the end of the tubing in some boiled water and then push it on it'll never fall off, in fact it takes a lot of effort just to pull it off yourself. If you go with fancy compression fittings and stuff it can soon mount up.

I dunno I've not tried higher yet, maybe it takes it from the bios because the boost table on my card now ends at 1506mhz.
I'm not sure about taking it any higher, I'll probably have to raise the power limit again if I do and I'm not sure if it'll be safe.
It sure does. Bloody hell I feel like I should mount my case on the wall with spotlights just so I can feel like buying all those Bitspower fittings was worth it.

I was thinking about going AIO in the near future (plan to either get a 6700k or a 5820k, depends on mobo costs) - My GPU should still be fine under air though, right?

I opted for the 980ti because it's pretty much even performance with the 980 SLI which I already have.
Single card v SLI for same performance = no brainer.

Your right about the cost of some compression fittings, my current setup has hundreds of pounds spent on BP fittings alone, it soon adds up.
Jubilee clips and barbs are far cheaper and just as reliable as a compression fitting although not as pretty to look at. Not sure I would have the balls to do undersized tubing and no clip like you have done even though I know it would probably be ok.
