The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

I had a Swift earlier in the year and ended up going through a total of 5 each with more problems than the last.

So does the Asus quality control still suck for this monitor or have they stopped cheaping out on the panels and have the nightmares ended ?

As I have an Nvidia card I'd like a G-Sync monitor but everything else out there is either Acer which looks incredibly cheap or is upwards of £700 which I am not spending on a monitor.

Is it safe to get a Swift or will I go through the endless RMA cycle again ?

Last week I went through 5 replacements all labelled July 2015. Various faults from back light bleed to buttons not working and a strange flicker on one.

mines been fine so far, hope nothing develops in the long term. no dead pixels, no bleed issues, fingers crossed.

Same couldnt be said of the Acer equivalent i tried.

Something else I noticed with my 2014 one. The gamma was too high so things looked a little washed out and colours were not as good. Now with ALL the 2015 ones did not have this problem and was on point at 2.2.

I no longer need to use an .ICC to correct issues like this.

I'm still loving my Swift. I am on my second one though, due to dead pixels and back light bleed on the first screen.

I've used a Spyder 5 express with Argyll and Dispcalgui to calibrate it. The picture looks so much better now for games and video.

I give up on getting a replacement from Asus; as I have read others have had weak replacements.

So,
I bought an Asus laptop power adapter off ebay (following suggestions from the ROG forum) It has exactly the same specs as the official Asus power adapter for the Swift.

I got it hooked up yesterday, and now my swift seems fine. No more random power-on's in the middle of the night. ;)

I'm getting to the stage where I'm considering this now........ ASUS support service seem rather useless. There service desk cant give me a time frame for receiving a new PSU as "the RMA department has a different system database and this inquiry is not possible".

I actually seem to have a good monitor with zero bleed or dead pixels and no issues other than the random turning on so I really dont want to swap the screen. I specified this on the RMA, specifically asking for just a PSU, and followed this up with a phone call when I received an ambiguious RMA reply and I was assured it would be just a PSU coming out. 2 weeks later a new monitor arrived which I simply rejected queuing another phone call explaining the issue and asking them to try again. I received the new RMA e-mail almost immediately, but 2 weeks later still no psu.

I've now sent them a longer message detailing my dissapointment and that I find it astonishing a company as big as asus cant link it's helpdesk and rma department to simply give a shipping estimate.

I dont suppose there is an ASUS rep on this forum?

My Swift has suddenly started having the following issue:

Switching on the monitor after it has been off overnight does nothing. The power switch seems to have no effect whatsoever. Looking inside the vent at the top I can see the little LED which is always there, so it does have power.

The only way I can get it to power up is to unplug it from the mains and plug it back in. After doing this the power switch works normally, until the next day

I just came back to this topic to ask the same question:-( Mine is only a few months old, no other problems though. I just wonder if this can get worse and it will not power at all after unplagging from mains?

Thank you very much for the tip. A tenner to avoid all the hassle with rma is fair enough:-)

My experience of Asus RMAs has been that basically they just round robin replacements til people either give up or happen to get one that works for them :S

Don't think I'll touch a monitor again that isn't Dell or Samsung.

Man... I was wondering about grabbing a Swift as it was on this week only but all this talk of QC issues has put me right off. Keen to move on from my Dell U2412M, but might have to hold out for something else.

You will need a new power supply, nothing wrong with the monitor. I had the same problem, Asus sent me a new one within 3 days, havent had a problem since.

I have had my swift since last september. Had 1 rma for a new power supply. Overall im super happy with mine.

Can you tell us the model number of the Asus laptop power adapter you bought please ?

My monitor has just started doing the dreaded not staying powered up. Unplug for 20 seconds and plug back in works fine.

Can we RMA just the PSU as it seems ASUS are problematic with swapping out just the PSU.

Monitor is perfect in other respects, just not staying powered after shut down is annoying.
