** NVIDIA GTX 1080 FOUNDERS EDITION: WANNA PRE-ORDER?

I'm finding this whole launch an absolute joke to be honest.

Anyone who buys one of these things at these prices wants their head examining.

Indeed. The whole FE nonsense is completely bizarre.

http://videocardz.com/60312/asus-rog-strix-gtx-1080-gets-another-teaser

For example, it looks like Asus will release/announce their strix card tomorrow and it is sounding increasingly likely that custom cards will be available tomorrow or at least early next week (what Gibbo has hinted out).

I just suppose Nvidia are cashing in on all the rich die hard fans that will just by the FE edition regardless of the price and whether it is any good or not.

My problem is I have a fully watercooled hardline rig and really do not want to wait the months it takes for EK to release the non reference blocks and the pain of tubing around the graphics card.

The FE has a full cover waterblock available at launch

Yup, here are your cheap $599 (£550 most likely) 1080's...

Want something better? Then expect to pay FE price or possibly more. :(

$1299 Australian dollars is ~ £637.

So that puts them at the same price as the FE cards, but Australia is known for having even worse rip-off prices than us!

I agree that the logic of the custom cards being as expensive as FE cards is sound. If the customs are ~£70 cheaper and better cooled etc then it really does eliminate the value of the FE's for anything other than "I can have it on the 28th!" It would also contradict Nvidia's desire for the FE's to be around the whole lifespan of the card.

But it still does pose the question, what exactly was that lower price all about when it first announced?

Also, I know the Galax card looks like a complete mess but it's still a £550 piece of kit based largely on the 1080 chipset. It can't be that bad, for that price it's got to in the very least perform reasonably well, and therefore be an option.

The other factor as well is that the different makers may have a little mini price war amongst themselves?

Water cool one of them and overclock the nuts of it.

Highly likely these kinds of cards will have a single 8-pin, so not much OC'ing going on there vs the custom 8+6 or 8+8 cards. Anything with a blower on is going to be inferior to the FE, so definitely cheaper. Anything else, same price or more than the FE. Come tmrw I'll be shocked (albeit pleasantly) if this isn't the case.

Hi there

Our sister company www.caseking.de took a photo with some of their cards today! :D

Tomorrow is going to be insane, were expecting this launch to outsell all those that went before it, gonna be complete mayhem in a very good way and even better news I now have over 500 cards ready for tomorrow with more stock landing.
