** NVIDIA GTX 1080 FOUNDERS EDITION: WANNA PRE-ORDER?

I'm well happy with that its just everyone going on about the extra 6pin/8pin power over reference. will it actually make any difference

Yes it will. It seems the FE suffers from lack of power and ish-at best cooling. If you are planning on one blower cooled card for 1080p (1440p?) then the FE is fine assuming no OC and good case airflow; however if you are looking at multiple cards/water cooled/over clocked the then 6+8 or 8+8 pin AIB cards are worth waiting for as the potential performance increase at 2ghz+ will be significant.

I asked the same question a while back! :)

Cheers
Ben

Yeah, my bad, gainward are owned by palit though

Ah I see, did not know that, I am interested in the zotac, gainward etc.

At first I was interested in the gigabyte xtreme, but after seeing the FE, now I am interested in zotac, gainward etc! Possibly the EVGA ACX 3.0.

Hi there

Our sister company www.caseking.de took a photo with some of their cards today! :D

Tomorrow is going to be insane, were expecting this launch to outsell all those that went before it, gonna be complete mayhem in a very good way and even better news I now have over 500 cards ready for tomorrow with more stock landing.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

I've worked with many Germans and they are never this happy. Clearly looking forward to their sale bonuses!

Ryan from pc perspective has spoken to an EVGA rep and they have confirmed they WILL have a $599 option meaning we SHOULD get an evga 1080 for just over £500 I hope I'm right! :D

LOL, $599... that'll convert to £598 after exchange rate + taxes then. BARGAIN! Keep dreaming at £500, ain't gonna happen unless it's a blower inferior to the FE.

This is where my issue is, gamers nexus put a gtx 980ti hybrid block on the 1080 FE and clocked it to 2.75ghz ish he then removed voltage from the memory down clocking it by a substantial amount and pushed this extra voltage into the GPU with no real improvement he could then only get 2.2ghz benchmark stable no matter how much voltage he threw at it.

I think 2.1ghz to 2.2ghz is the overclock ceiling on this card which makes the second pcie power connector fairly pointless except for those who want an extra 50mhz

So for me it's a question of stability - we know heat is an issue with the FE, and we know that it suffers from throttling. I want to have the 1080's sat at a stable 2ghz or slightly over, below 80deg and running quiet and stable for ever and a day. The FE just can't do that from what I've read?

I guess we wait and see what comes out tomorrow and if AIB cards with extra power connex do appear then we know there is clearly a gain. Otherwise we are guessing and inferring from the info we have.

Cheers :)

There definitely will be some as people want every drop of performance and there will be some cards with binned gpu's that can do over 2.2ghz but they will come at a premium that makes the FE edition look cheap

Still waiting for a Pyramid shot......

Nvidia probably did the 2.1 GHZ test with a cherry chip and air-con. I expect Gibbo and 8 Pack to do something similar tomorrow. It gives us an idea of what the cards will do in ideal conditions but I agree that mileage will vary.

Well the Founders edition was supposed to drop at $699 which equates to £578 including VAT yet they dropped at £619 to £650 so I really don't see any cards even the cheapest coming in at anything under £550 and that's being very very optomistic

Yup, exactly. There won't be a £500 1080 anytime soon, not a chance in hell and it's pure fantasy for anyone to be hoping for this. The blower ones will be around £550 if we're lucky, everything else in, around and above the FE price.

What have you been sniffing?
Taking exchange rate and VAT into account, the FE cards were marked up by ~£50.

Following this, we should be looking at AIB cards around £540.

I'm not saying all AIB cards will be low, but c'mon, don't just pull numbers out your ass

EDIT: Well his comment was removed lol, but still, we should see cards around £540, which is what myself and a lot of people were predicting a week or so ago. Now the EVGA Hybrid? That's the price that'll be interesting :D

If we look at the 1080FE as an example ($699) = £476 + 20% VAT = £571.
Now FE cards are retailing at £619, so marked up by ~£50.

I'm willing to bet my left nut that you won't find a 1080 cheaper than £550 if your lucky. Think about it if they sell a cheapo one for £580 bearing in mind the FE is £619 people will buy it
