Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I think my router is playing up (Got the Super Hub 2 A/C) Using Speed test over WiFi using my phone, Tablet or laptop I get anywhere between 10 - 40 Mbps but usually the lower end, Using the Ethernet I get solid 52 Mbps.

Tried rebooting and had look at the settings, all seem to be connected at 5g, will call them tomorrow and see what they say.

Ended up phoning thus morning and the chap done this and I ended up with no internet, tablet and phone connected to the router but no internet, he had do some changes to the router which I think involved a new firmware but even he said this took a long time to install!

But I seem to have 50Meg now :)

I did the haggle today and managed to get TV package removed, and go from near £45 a month for 76Mbit / tv/phone to 100Mbit only, for £24 a month.

Not sure how many still have the 152Mb broadband either on its own or in a package, but I've just got off the phone with VM and I was informed it will cease to exist at the end of the year. They're going to be offering just 3 speeds 50, 100 or 200Mb.

Currently on the 152Mb myself so need to decide if to drop to 100 or upgrade to the 200Mb. Much more than likely I'll upgrade the speed to the 200Mb, but I need to call again to get a better offer.

I was offered a number of different packages/prices and none of them made me bite their hands off.

Bundles offered: -

iPlay TV
100Mb
Phone

£46.00

M+ TV
100Mb
Phone

£52.00

iPlay TV
200Mb
Phone

£54.00 + New Superhub plus £14.99 activation fee.

Broadband only: -

100Mb
Phone

£39.00

200Mb
Phone

£47.00 + New Superhub plus £14.99 activation fee.

I also discovered that my contract expired in 2012

Those of you who have recently managed to get new deals, do you think I could do better, or VM could offer more?

The person I spoke to certainly didn't come across as the most switched on. The reason for saying that is that she thought the 100Mb should be fine for me as my average monthly usage is 92Gb

Regards

I have 150mb but only recently no thanks to vm staff (they just ignored me every time i asked) managed to do it online.
I'm In the same boat im up for renewal but they have not offered me anything better instead, they told me if i don't renew my price will go up by £12 and if i renew I will be paying my currant price of £57 for the big bang budle with the upgraded speed or i can drop my package down to 20mb basic calls and tv and pay £44 .

I only stick with vm because I cant get fiber in my area, I rather have tv from sky.

Ive a requested a cancellation and will call back to see if they have a change of mind, if not i can still re sign up as a new customer and get the new customer deal.

So if anyone else had better luck please share

Not sure if you are still in a contract but if so make sure you check the bill/new contract

I just did similar and got an email yesterday asking me to sign my new contract for broadband and phone and they have charge a £60 TV disconnection fee

So I went from completely disconnected to agreeing to keeping phone and Internet and they sting me for it grrrrrrrrrrr

Been will VM for 2 years now so I gave them a call and they offered me nothing cheaper/extra.

Should I threaten to leave? What sort of package should I expect for just over £40 a month?

I'm on 150, TV M and phone M for £37.48. Our contract expired at the end of July but I couldn't negotiate a speed increase without a price increase, even with dropping TV and/or phone. I'm going to wait until the end of the year and see if I can get something better.

Just installed SH3 and 200 Gamer today (went from 70mb and SH2ac). Getting around 90/100Mb/s on speedtest on Wireless AC 5ghz (I've seen others max this out on wireless) however peeking at 15MB/s on Steam.

I haven't got a network cable to test on that but will get one if need be.

I don't know any thing about power levels and SNR but how do mine look?

Channel | Frequency(Hz) | Power(dBmV) | SNR(dB) | Modulation | Channel ID
1 -------- 299000000 ---- 2 ------------ 38.9 ----- 256 qam --- 127
2 -------- 323000000 ---- 2.2 ---------- 40.3 ----- 256 qam --- 130
3 -------- 315000000 ---- 2.2 ---------- 40.3 ----- 256 qam --- 129
4 -------- 307000000 ---- 2.5 ---------- 40.9 ----- 256 qam --- 128
5 -------- 291000000 ---- 1.5 ---------- 38.9 ----- 256 qam --- 126
6 -------- 283000000 ---- 2 ------------ 40.3 ----- 256 qam --- 125
7 -------- 275000000 ---- 1.7 ---------- 40.3 ----- 256 qam --- 124
8 -------- 267000000 ---- 1.4 ---------- 38. ------ 256 qam --- 123
9 -------- 259000000 ---- 1.2 ---------- 38. ------ 256 qam --- 122
10 ------- 251000000 ---- 0.7 ---------- 38. ------ 256 qam --- 121

Channel ID | Frequency(Hz) | Modulation | Power(dBmV) | Mode |Channel Bandwidth(Hz) | Symbol Rate(ksps)
3 ---------- 32600000 ------ ATDMA ------ 45.8 ------ 16 qam ------ 6400000 ---------- 5120
1 ---------- 46200000 ------ ATDMA ------ 44.3 ------ 16 qam ------ 6400000 ---------- 5120

they are fine...

it's best to speed test on wired, that way you'll know for sure what speed your getting

so i tried ethernet connection this morning as i just wanted to check i am getting the speeds i'm paying for. Over wireless i'm hitting 130 to 160mb which is great. So i'm happy now.

I will check at 6pm wish tonight to see what speed drop i get at peak times.

one thing though. Ping!

Is this normal for virgin or can it be brought down?

Been with Virgin well over a year now but my introductory offer (£45 pm) has now ended and I'm paying close to £70.

Can I call up and ask to re-negotiate, not bothered if it means a new contract just wanting to save some money, currently on what was the 'Big Kahuna'
* XL TV
* Phone (weekends)
* 200 GB

thanks
